Default Timing and Reversed Motors?

When running a motor in reverse direction in cars like the XB4 and many others... is it best to leave the can at 0 degrees and make all timing adjustments through the ESC? It's my understanding that whatever timing you have set on your can.... you will actually have negative timing once you reverse motor direction. Basically.....

10 on can + 20 on esc = 10 degrees timing

10 on can + 10 on esc = No timing

20 on can + 10 on esc = -10 degrees

I was hoping some more knowledgable people could confirm this. I would assume it's best to leave at 0 on can and make all adjustments through esc. I tried searching but couldn't find the right answers. It seems some people flip their diffs and keep normal rotation but that isn't possible on all cars.

Most motors are only meant to turn in one direction, given you wired it correctly.

I had an XB4 and it did not require reversing the motor direction. If you're having to do that then you either put the diffs in backwards or you need to reset your ESC.

You're right. The motor in my XB4 turns CW. I assumed that flipping it would have reversed everything. Thanks. Let's say you do have to reverse direction.... what is the best way to add timing? ESC only?

There is no problem in adding timing directly through the motor, just has to be "negative timing" since its in reverse
