Anyone know where to get a rear gear box at? Everywhere I have looked don't have them.

sls7474 06-24-2014 06:38 PM

tekno rc shows them in stock.

yes, the original thin larger diameter shims are the correct ones.

So the larger diameter shims they sent out to replace the original faulty (small diameter) shims are also having issues?
Or are people still talking about the original small shims?

no, see above.

i just built my truggy, I dont recall the size of the shims
anyone have any pics of both old and new side by side?
I guess Ill find out on rebuild!

I'm confused are you talking about the diff shims put on over the outdrives, or the internal shim/washer that goes under the gear on the inside?

I decided life was too short to deal with the external shims and just throw the diff in the housing as is. Typically doesn't have much play anyway.

I have a strange story about my Tekno cust service experience. Has anyone else ran into this?

I bent the chassis on my ET-48. I emailed Tekno and they told me to send it in and they would give me a 50% off coupon code for a new one. I sent the chassis in via UPS. I tracked it in and it was shown received and signed for at their location on a Tuesday. I sent Tekno anther email asking what I had to do next. They replied that they only check their PO box on Mondays?? I replied that it had shipped UPS not USPS and have not heard anything back as of yet. If I had sent it in via USPS, what business checks their mail once a week?

Right. That was going to be my next step. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this...

I also did not use the shims. All is good with mine. I imagine after a bunch of packs through it things may loosen up but everything is still pretty tight in there.

Just to be clear, I am certain it is the shim/washer under the gears inside the diff that is causing diffs to lockup because they are collapsing (becoming concave.)

rjohn929 06-26-2014 10:08 AM

I am talking about the shim on the ouside. If you are talking about the washers inside the diff under the gears those have to be there. I think they had a redesign after the initial batch to increase the diameter of the washers. I think they were about the same size as the gear (I can't remember, I haven't opened them up in while) which is the new style. I assembled mine according the instructions and I have not had a problem at all with my diffs.

Yeah, I was actually replying directly to Mizchief, in order to clarify which shims/washers were still causing issues. The initial batch of shims that shipped with the truggy were correct, but not the correct hardness. They replaced those with a different shim that worked, but is collapsing after extended use. Tekno is now getting the original shims in the proper hardness, which should correct that problem. I agree with you about the shims on the outside of the diff , but those have not caused issues other than difficult install. I think this topic got confused from the initial post about it a few pages back, post #3025. That is the post I am concerned with, as those washers have been an Achilles heel for the ET48.
