1/8 Buggy Battery....??
Hey everyone,
Looking to get some batteries for my 1/8 E-buggy. Looking at the setup sheets online i see Mayfield, Cav and those guys runnning samll 4s like the WolfPack in the 35c 3700Mah packs. Then i have the guys at my track telling me to get 5500Mah and up 4s batteries. I dont know which way to go and was looking for some insight from you rctecher's....
Thank you in advance!

Just my .02.
I think the much longer run times at 5000+mah will be a good setup no matter the type of 8th scale vehicle especially if you ever bash.

I'd say take the recommendation from the guys at your track. The pros have the ability to use batteries that regular hobbyist have no need of. What I mean is that those guys are so skilled and I'm sure $$$ is no issue when it comes to battery packs for a PROFESSIONAL RACE. That's why they can run packs only 3700mah. The guys at your track probably know what it takes to be competitive and have fun there.

Yeah it pretty much depends on whether you're just practicing or if you're racing and if you care about having a battery specifically for racing. Pro racers will run just enough Mah to make the length of the race. Smaller for qualifying even. a 5000+mah battery will be good for practice and fine for racing. 4s systems don't need as much discharge capability typically so 35-50c will be fine. The quality of the pack and how long it lasts and how well you take care of it will probably end up being more significant factors.

If you wanted to get every last bit of performance out of a buggy it'd definitely make a relatively large difference though. You can spend over $200 on lightweight parts easily for some buggies to save .44lb of weight.

On an RC8.2e, the Reedy packs put the car within an oz or two of ideal Left/Right and Front/Rear balance. I currently run 5200mah batteries that make the battery side (left) about 3-4 oz heavier than the right. Does it make a difference? I have no idea, I'm at the point of trying to stay out of the pipes but it is something to consider. If you are at a point where you can dirve the car to its limit consistently, I think it will make a difference.
