Questions about batteries
I had a chance to pick up a crawler today that came with three lipos. The batteries that came with it are 2s batteries(7.4v) but they are much smaller( about 1/2 the size) of the 2s lipo that came with my sc10. I was wondering why the wolfpack battery is twice as long, and also is there any way to hook up two of the smaller batteries in series and end up with a 4s battery since i can fit them in the tray?

wanted to run them in my sc10, but realized my esc and motor won't handle 4s. They will handle 3s, but the guy at the hobby shop said that even with a 3s rating, running 3s would not be good for it. Not sure if he was trying get to buy upgrades or if there's truth to his statement, any thoughts?

First, if you plan on racing the SC10, a 2s lipo is the max. Additionally, a 2s lipo is MORE than enough for a crawler/scaler. I run lipo's between 5 to 6.6 amp, 50 to 70C in my SC10FT that has a modded 7.5T motor and I get runtimes of 21 to 24 minutes. For a crawler/scaler you really don't even need a high C rating. A 30C is plenty. You would easily get runtimes of way over an hour or even two on one charge!!

I went to the track earlier just to watch and those guys are way beyond my league. I was just thinking that if i practiced with 3s that my truck would be faster, increasing my level of control, then when i eventually do race, it will feel like driving miss daisy around the track, making my truck feel more nimble. Plus when i'm just having fun, i want the ability to go faster. So, i still am wondering about a 3s rated esc/motor setup being able to handle 3s without issues or not.

can it handle 3s, yes, would I ever sugest it, no (and I work at a hobby store) 3s makes everything hotter, greatly increasing you chance of melting something. Its pushing the system to the limite so all it takes is a bit more rolling resistance from loose dirt or grass will put more load on it getting it too hot. Now the whole running i on the track on 3s, I wouldn't. Stick to 2s, it will already have plenty of power for a new guy. Running more power will just make the learning curve slower and more expensive,, kep it slow and you'll enjoy it more, break less, and improve. Going fast and crashing teaches you nothing(why our local SC class is now 17.5 blinky insteaded of 13.5 open that it was)
