Are you getting those as a motor/esc combo? Because personally I don't like either of them  But if I were to choose I would go with the LRP speedo and Reedy motor!

As for spur and pinion… I would start him off at around 72/29 and go from there. It's a nice simple gear ratio and should work just fine

LOL...those are the electronics that I already own. Thank you for the gear input.

I need some advice...My 8 year old son will be driving my B4.2 as I get the B5M. He has never driven before and he will be set up for stock. Here are my choices:

LRP Flow ESC and Reedy Sonic Mach 2 17.5
Or
Orion R10 Pro and Orion VST Pro 17.5

And what spur and pinion gears for the little guy? He will have an MT-4 as well which I can dial down the speed on.

Either of those ESCs or either of those motors will be great. Take a long look at the Schuurspeed motors though. They are damn fast! I run both a 13.5 and 17.5 and they are crazy good.

for an 8 year old that is new to racing, it wont mater one bit and like you said, you will probably need to turn it down anyway. My 8 year old runs a tekin rs gen2, mostly so I can tweak it fast on the track. Mostly drag break and sometimes boost. She has been racing a year now, so I no longer slow her car down. For a motor she runs the reedy 17.5. I tried other motors, but the smoother power band of the reedy seemed easier for her to drive. She is geared 72/30 with 40 deg of timing.

Thank you for the advice Wildcat. I appreciate it.

What driving difference can I expect to feel if I put my esc on a shelf instead of in the battery tray?

Thanks,

Has anyone directly measured their droop (height of axle line compared to chassis bottom)? I have way less droop than everyone at my track, but have the 3/2 spacer combo on most of the setup sheets.

I'm sure I have my shock eyelets on wrong or something, but without the direct droop measurement, it's hard to tell what's going on.

Hideeho
Droop on these cars is set strictly by shock length. The easy way to get a direct comparison of droop is to measure the shock length while mounted. For example, measure from the back of the top shock mount screw to inside the head of the bottom shock mount screw.

Also make sure you have WAY more droop with the shock off. If this is not the case, you have issues elsewhere.

Also, also, droop should be exactly the same on each side.

You should be pressing the red binding button in the Rx to set it to bind mode and then press the button on the back of the Tx. If it doesn't work you might have a defective Rx or Tx and you'll want to contact Associated to see what you need to do to have it replaced.

I finally got my TX binded to my RX. But now i got no reverse...
tried the binding process again and no reverse. Buggy runs forward and steers ok but no reverse.

Already contacted associated regarding this, but its saturday. have to wait till they reply on monday.

In the meantime ,any troubleshooting tips to see if its the ESC or the TX that is faulty?

What is the ESC?

That said you shouldn't run reverse anyway, it isn't allowed for racing. Many (most if not all?) ESCs have a mode where reverse is disabled...yours may be in this mode.

Wildcat1971 01-11-2014 05:25 AM

lol, I want to put reverse on mine for practice. I should setup a viper profile for reverse on my esc. anyway, you might need to recalibrate the esc

langsky 01-11-2014 05:40 AM

Can anyone tell me the length needed for the motor sensor wire to run from the motor to the ESC in the chassis side and from the motor to the ESC behind the battery (when running shorty)? I am out of town, want to pick up new sensor wires and I don't have my car with me.

Wildcat1971 01-11-2014 05:44 AM

wtf? I barely understood that. I use 200mm with the esc on the side and 175mm with it in the tray\

langsky 01-11-2014 05:52 AM

Ha Ha...For barely understanding it, you answered it perfectly. Thanks again Wildcat!

So you run no anti squat shim or does the kit come with a 0 shim? What is the characteristic of going to a 0 from stock which 2...correct?

For anyone interested I have 9 new pairs of pro-line fronts in yellow. Willing to make a good deal. Preferably a trade.
