Losi VS. AE Shock Oil???
 

What's the big difference between Losi shock oil and AE shock oil??? I run 1/10 and 1/8 off-road. Primarly around the tracks I race @ I think I'm the only one using losi shock oil. WHY????? What is the difference??? Is it price or what???

I just change my shock oil in my 4WD SCT and it came out black. Almost 20 races on it. It was Losi

No real difference. They both perform just fine, but their weights are slightly different. (I think the AE oil is slightly heavier than the losi, but I could be remembering incorrectly).

Does AE make a 27.5 yet? That used to be a "hole" in the lineup.

Losi used to be heavier but somewhere along the line AE changed suppliers and I'm told the opposite is now true. I believe AE is ~$0.25 cheaper per bottle too.

Simple answer- use one brand, don't have a mixed brand assortment or your tuning results will be inconsistent.

yes ae has all the 1/2 wts.

From AE cst on the bottle to Losi measured cst...Losi is usually slightly heavier than AE for a given weight.

The AE oil that is made/packaged for them by Lucas now is slightly thinner than Losi for equivalent weights and I've found it be more consistent in it's packaging as well, i.e. it always feels the same bottle to bottle and I've been unable to say that about Losi's oil in the past.

Does Lucas make AE's shock oil????? If so that is big..... I already use alot of there stuff.

Losi oil was known to about 2.5wt. lighter than AE oil in the past. Not the case any more?

My experience was the opposite in the past 10 years. I found the attached chart to be about right. Not as familiar with the newer Lucas sourced AE fluids.

Losi weight is thinner than AE! AE is 2.5wt thicker. sooooo 30wt AE = 32.5 Losi.

Yeah I noticed the 3 diff labeled bottles of AE... Also Losi has 2 different labeled bottles.

The key to shock oil is, as has already been mentioned, to just stick to one brand/type, i.e. only use the AE/Lucas stuff and you'll get consistent results. Trying to figure out what equals what at the track will just leave you with a headache.

What I don't understand is if the shock oil is let's say 25 weight oil, then why does that weight differ from company to company? Oil weight is oil weight, so if one company has 25 weight oil and another company has 25 weight oil but in reality they might be 26 or 27 weight even though it says 25 weight. What gives?
