Ok maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself then lol. Im on bag L or M I was looking at it so I probably just don't have something on yet that it needs. Thanks.

Do yourself a favor and follow the directions step by step. I just finished mine up last night and it went together like a dream. no issues what so ever.

There's also a number of issues explained on the first post that you can avoid if you read it carefully.

Good luck. Hope yours ends up a nice as mine did.

- 1.3mm x 10 hole
- 1.2mm x 10 hole
- 1.4mm x 8 hole
- 1.1mm x 10 hole
- 1.3mm x 8 hole

Anyone know the thickness of the pistons off hand?

As I understand it, a higher number of smaller holes will give more pack. The oil can only pass through a small hole so fast under compression. I would say that the 1.1x10 hole piston will give the most pack, and the 1.4x8 hole piston the least.

I'm still doing testing, but I think there are better options than the stock pistons. The stockers have too much pack, and make the truck too reactive and twitchy. I put in Kyosho 6 hole pistons drilled to 1.4mm holes, losi 35 wt oil from and rear, stock springs, and tested it yesterday after racing was over. (didn't race it, prefer 2wd buggy indoors). Practiced with it there last week as well, and had the local setup guru drive it as well. Truck was good last week, but kinda twitchy and assy under power out of the turns. He recommended camber link changes and to try different pistons, to give the truck a more plush ride and improved stability. Made the changes and the truck was WAY better, even on a drier track. Very predictable when getting hard on the power around and out of the turns. Still needs a bit more tuning, the front end dove hard landing off some drop-off style jumps, and the rear oil, to me, felt a bit too heavy. Changed to losi 30wt oil in the rear, stood the rear shocks up one hole from all the way inboard on the top, and went to Kyosho orange front springs. On the bench, the front and rear suspension feel more balanced now, and both rebound the same.

I think the stock pistons are better suited to a heavier vehicle, like the 1/8th scale. I think 6 or 8 hole pistons will work better in this truck. IMO

do you know what the difference is between these pistons:

I know it was popular on the eb48 to use 1.3mm x 8 hole pistons, curious to try these on the sct410 just not sure which to buy.

would say the 1.3mm x 8 hole will give more pack than the 1.2mm x 10 hole? For me, feel I need more pack.

Between the Kyosho piston the black have holes at a funny angle and the white have normal holes.

For general use does this truck really need different springs? Mine feel great with stock springs and 40/35 oils. What conditions warrant needing stiffer springs?

Is it that the black pistons are slightly cone shaped possibly like the Tekno versions that are currently out of stock?

If it feels great matt, i say keep using it. I needed stiffer springs for my conditions based on what I had available as the vehicle felt better on the track.

Now, I have to say, if the facility was going to stay open for another race, I would love to try some stiffer swaybars again with the stock springs, and pistons where I can get a bit more pack out of.

MattP 02-24-2013 03:30 PM

Cain what are your track conditions that make you need stiffer springs? Higher than normal traction? Big jumps?

UK.hardcore 02-24-2013 03:31 PM

They are all conical, but the SP ones have the holes drilled sideways.

carpet. posted some vids of it a page or two back.

when outdoor season comes, it will be loose 1/8 sized conditions or smaller track, but still loose. May go down to stock springs. But, still think I will need the pack though so different shock pistons.

thanks, so the white ones would be a better choice then. Trying to decide between a 1.3mm x 8 hole setup, or, a 1.1mm x 10 hole setup ... decisions decisions ... lol

MattP 02-24-2013 03:41 PM

Ok cool. Let us know your outdoor setup once you get a good one nailed down.

6 hole 1.4 Fioroni 40 oil rear 50 front just got back from testing all I can say is wow :D

Cain 02-24-2013 04:26 PM

cool. To me I just feel weird going to these really high oil weights when I am thinking in the 30 range with the right piston will work well. Maybe I am just being difficult lol

Ya have to take into consideration the hole size (1.4) and the fact that the Fioroni pistons have those slits on the back side of the orings where some oil will pass through there too.

Could you explaine a little more on the WOW factor. I got these in my box and planning to put them on next time I rebuild the shocks. Just want to know what to expect. I know, I could just put them on and do my own dirty work. I'm just trying to save time. I will for sure start with 50, 40 oil weight.
