hobbywing v3 vs orion r10

looking at buying three new esc and i am trying to decide between the r10 pro orion or the hobbywing v3. I know hobbywing makes them both so i am just wondering who has experience with both esc and which one they like better and why. Thanks in advance for your input

Even though the esc's are made of the same hard ware the Orion has much better software. Please correct me if I am wrong.

hard to say, I have run both the R10 and a number of hobbywings and both have performed almost identical on the track as least as far as i could tell/feel. I wouldnt say the orion software is any better. The new V3 has a few nice features the R10 does not. Also, the program box is a 1/3 of the price for the HW vs the re-labeled Orion version.

not a true story, yes they are both made my HW but Orion has hobbywing make the boards to orions specs. The boards are slighlty different along with the cases, etc. On the track, i can not feel a bit of difference in performance, hence the reason why i run hobbywing. Both great esc's

We know that the two are (for most all intents and purposes) the same piece of hardware.

That said, I haven't found the HW v3 anywhere online substantially cheaper than the Orion -which in that case I'd go for the Orion for the sake of any future service and/or warranty issues.

Have you had to deal with getting an orion product warrantied through Horizon? It is terrible. Almost as bad as HW, which luckily i have never had a issue with. You can get a HW with the program box for the same cost you can buy a 160A R10 with there re-branded box. Either way, its close on price and both are great esc's.

A couple of guys locally have been running the reventons as of late. IF i have any problems with my hobbywings, i will be trying these.

If you had to run one or the other which would it be?

ryanpatrickgore 10-24-2012 03:51 PM

If you cant choose...
Orion has a great reputation and style to it. Very trendy right now.

"Sooo hot" hansel

Well that settles it !
Get one HW, one Orion and one Reventon, and let us know how it goes.

I have run a buddies rs pro (223 software) in extra car i had for while. I thought it was nearly as smooth as my hobbywings when the esc is adjusted and setup correctly for your application. We race on a pretty low grip track, with adjustments in hotwire to the tekins throttle curves, deadband, etc, the esc felt great. All my other cars have hobbywing xeruns and i cant honestly say that one over the other felt entirely different. Tekins warranty/customer service is second to none as well. If you have the tekins now, i personally would not get rid of them IMO.

If your Tekin is an on/off switch your doing something wrong their component are very smooth
