Could of swore a couple of days ago I got some Facebook updates with a link to a couple of videos talking about a couple new things coming out for the B4.1. I want to say an extended chassis and big bores is what they were testing.

1/10 buggies are top notch already, I would go for the most common platform, a B4.1 FT or something equivalent.
In 1/8 it's different as the category is "quite" new. A lot of details could be improved, really. Weight, balance, motor position, slipper etc etc..

I'd like to suggest the Losi XX4 platform. Its the best 4wd car out there nowadays.

Maybe you could find the XX4 on ebay or somewhere around.

I would put money on that. And just to clarify, bet against the Losi.

Dustin Evans just won the Spektrum race with one of those. It is as fast as any buggy on the market, just a lot less convenient to work on.

and I would be curious to see what would happen if he tried running a Caster or a B44.1 in an honest attempt to beat his times. There is a possibility he could do it.

And of course, some people can drive a Losi faster than a Mugen and vice versa.

Not to sound like an ass, but i really dont care what the pros use, i judge things on the club level, u know see how average guys / girls do with it, and i really cant remember the last time i even saw a losi xx4,much less race against one

Dustin Evans could take any 4wd buggy and be fast with it. What the pros use means nothing to me. You give him an Associated B44.1 he would had more than likely won with that buggy also.

He may have but at the level they're racing, any disadvantage is extremely difficult to overcome. While 4wd was not stacked with talent like the 2wd race was, the guys (and gal) in the 4wd A are excellent racers (Chad Due got 3rd ahead of much bigger names in 2wd as well), good enough to beat him if he had inferior equipment.

The xx-4 is a tricky car to get right and isn't made anymore so it's not going to become the #1 car at anyone's track but it was always a great performer, it was just difficult to work with.

You can watch Dustin's runs here:

This is a joke right? How can you put those 2 cars in the same breath? Unless their quality has come a LONG was since their original 1/8th scales...

What's wrong with Associated's quality? They don't wear very well but they're not bad.

Caster's quality is very good. The current 1/8 stuff is known to be very solid. It's a pretty different car (alloy chassis, built more like a small 1/8). The only real flaw I see with it is that it has no provision for upper link height, inner or outer. Not sure how you tune around that.
