I have a question about my T4.1 RTR. I bought it just to fiddle around with on my track, and the first thing I did was pull the stock receiver and put in a futaba R614FF to run with my 4pks.

The truck feels like it has a heavy drag brake enabled, but it doesn't. Accelerating it feels like it has a brick tied to the rear end, and when I let off the throttle it tries to stop so fast it will drag the rear wheels and skid. Its basically undrivable right now. I setup the ESC, and the stock setting for drag brake is 5%. I turned that off, and still no go. I even adjusted the slipper... I'm not sure what else to try. I cannot find a drag brake setting with my transmitter, just push, and everything is set to 0%.

Any ideas would be appreciated... I wanted the try the stock rtr receiver out again and see if that is the issue but of course when I switched out the receiver and tried dislodging the stock one from the chassis, the casing broke in half. So unless I order in another receiver I cant eliminate that from the equation.

Would love to hear some ideas as Ive yet to run a full pack through the new truck.

Over heated coil in your stator can cause this issue. Try a different motor.

Check the gear mesh. If it's too tight there is an excessive amount of drag on the system.

i'd start by recalibrating the esc to the transmitter. Then remove the pinion and see if the drivetrain is free. Then id try running the motor with no pinion and see if its breaking hard without the drive train. just go one possibility at a time. did it work fine with the stock radio?

Thanks for the input, I did try adjusting the slipper and pinion but will look at running without the pinion to see if its in the drive.

I never ran the truck with the rtr radio. First thing I did after unboxing was put in my futaba receiver and recalibrate. I've only ran maybe half a pack through the truck.

I will try these suggestions and see what happens. Thanks!

How is the competition from the losi truck? How are your resuls holding up? Are you in socal?

The Losi truck isn't the competition for the T4.1, the RT5 is. The 22t can match my laptimes at the sharp end of the field in a 17.5 blinky class for only the first 2-3 minutes and then they always fade off to the point where all but one of the better-driven 22t's by me has been shelved. The reason is simple; my T4.1 weighs half a pound less than than the next lightest 22t we've weighed. To keep up, they have to run more gear or endbell timing and that leads to fade everytime. In a mod class, the weight could play into the hands of the Losi but in stock, we've had nights were the entire class was only AE and Kyosho trucks anymore.

I pulled the pinion and checked the drive line, was smooth as butter so I reset the mesh and that solved the issue.

Can't believe I missed that, thank you for the help!

Also check the rear hub bearings. I had a couple fail two weeks ago and it was similar to what you are saying.

With the HPI E-Firestorm for example you can mount the 2.8 Proline Desperado wheel in two ways.

1. You can drill the hole to 9/32 and they mount right on.
2. You can add 12mm hex's from traxxas and they mount right on.

So with that being said, could the same be done to mount these to a T4.1? Or is there another mod so that I can use 2.8 wheels? I prefer 2.8 wheels over 2.2
I've heard that the wheels that are on the Losi Speed-T can fit on the T4.1 but haven't seen and evidence of this.

I don't have them yet, but am also thinking about buying them. I would think that they may also work on the Big Bores whenever they do come out

Fantastic answer, thank you! Do you see the truck class as "back" ?

Sadly, no, not as much as I'd like in my area. It's "back" from the grave as it was totally gone last year but because it came back on the basis of the strong sales of the 22t only for that truck to largely bomb out on the track, it's now back on deathwatch as many of those of us still running it are doing so largely as our second-class for the night and people often tend to be more fickle in their approach to their "other car" on a race night.

There are parts of the country where the class never went away and other parts where even the "excitement" of Losi having produced a new vehicle for the class wasn't enough to bring it back at all so YMMV.
