Any idea what the problem is with my center diff? Just finished a third rebuild and it still locks up.
i have had the same problem with 2 out of 3 of my diffs ...i was kinda concerned at first because it was the same exact problem ...built by instructions and wont turn at all completely locked up ...here is what i did after building it 3 times to prove to myself that i built it right

i opted to take 1 of the shims out from the ring gear side between the oring and pin if that makes sense ...even though the manual calls for 2 ...i could never tighten it all the way without binding ....i have ran it a full race day this past saturday ...no leak and butter smooth ...others have had the same issue and have tried multiple ways to fix it including

1. using shorter screws to attach the ring or spur gear to the cup
2. double up the diff gaskets
3.and most extreme just locking it down and pinning the front wheels down and just lightly giving it throttle and forcing it to move ...i cant suggest you do this but strangely it worked

you have to be able to tighten those screws down snug because if you dont the diff will leak for sure ...sorry for the long winded post .....but i hope it helps you out

I finally got it together. Gears turn just as smooth as the front and rear. I still don't really know what the problem was. Only thing I can figure is maybe one or more of the screws were going in at the wrong angle. Anyone that's had problems with this might want to verify they are going into the threads properly.

I was getting ready to throw it all back in the box and go play Skyrim, instead. Now, it's on to Bag D!

Thanks to all of you for taking the time out of your Sunday morning to offer advice.

Make sure all four screws are going into the threads in the housing. It was harder for me to get them in there correctly than it was for the front/rear diffs. I'm thinking that's what was wrong with mine. Still not sure, though. Good luck!

I havent built the RC8.2 yet. But in general when building a diff. If it binds check these things.
  • Are both crown gears sitting all the way down over the pins? Anything in the slots on the back of the gear or in the hole holding the gear from completely seating?
  • Are the slots in the cross pins cut deep deep enough for them to sit and nest into each other properly?
  • Any burs showing on the gears preventing them from meshing properly?

If all of those things look good then taking a shim out from behind one or both of the crown gears seems like a reasonable solution. Maybe check that dif after a little run time and break in and see if they need the original shims added back in to reduce slop.

Should fit. That sounds like the same battery I have (actually I have 3 or 4 of them!). Good batteries.

Have to wait until Christmas to open, though. Oh well, I have a ton of other things going on right now anyway.

As for what I'm using, I decided to change my setup from my RC8Be. Here's what I decided to go with:
RX8 w/1400kV motor & 6S batteries
Savox SB-2271SG servo ($50 through SavoxUSA with a servo trade in, can't beat that!)

I've been really happy with the RX8 in the Be and the Savox 1258TG servo, so I didn't see a need to change brands.

As for upgrades, will probably only buy the rear aluminum hubs and maybe Ti turnbuckles, but neither are cheap, so probably won't buy them right away.
Looking to run this same setup. Any suggestions on where to find the batteries would help. I have looked at Hobbyking, but all batteries seem to be to looong!

I bought a pair of these:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=20759

I haven't had a chance to try them yet (too much family and work stuff going on), but they fit the battery tray great. Actually there is a few mm of room on both the width and length, even with the padding in place.

I'm thinking about trying some Thunderpower 6S batteries too. IIRC, they make a 3850mAh battery that should fit.
