Default Need advice on motor/esc for T4

My son and I like doodling around the yard with these things and we recently went to a local hobby shop and was informed that Lipo batteries would run fine on our stock T4s. I soldered everything in and seen sparks from the motor when running.

Id like to upgrade my motor and ESC but dont wanna spend a ton of $. Anyone have any good suggestions on cheaper units that will run LiPo?

Any advice would be great.

Also open to used parts, so if you have anything... shoot me a PM

For one of the T4's, i wouldnt mind being a bit faster, so i can eventually make it to the track.

Well as far as motor wise go with a lrp stock spec, novak ballistic, or teking redline. motor winds are 17.5 is stock class and anything else is mod class. i have a 13.5 and have to say its pretty fast.

As far as esc wise goes for the best quality and performance i would have to say a tekin rs. with all the programability i would say you can make a 13.5 act aster than a 10.5. It is a bit expensive but they last a lifetime with no calls to customer service. Buy Tekin or Buy Twice.

If you end up going with say a castle or traxxas brand, lets just say you get what you pay for. i have had castle's as a begginer and i cant say enough of all the problems i have had.

Look for a used Tekin RS ($120-130). Any 13.5 is plenty for club racing.

You don't need an rs pro for a t4.

I run and rs with a 8.5 in mod truck with no problem.

Your better off spending a few buck now and save alot later.

If you buy a non programable esc and then want to upgrade later you've just spent almost twice as much.

Tekin isn't the only good choice but it's one of the best.
I run them because they are small and do everything I want.

ive got a Duratrax Element in my T3 that im workin on. i just got a 3000 mah battery and its quick with it. but i put my buddy's 3s lipo and it was just insane. had to be in the 50-60 range with stock gearing. it could be cruisin at 30-40, and flip over when i hit it. but it kept backin the slipper nut off from the power so i put some thread lock on it. then it just stripped the spur gear. i plan on runnin lipo eventually, so im gonna try to gear it higher and hope that helps.

but anyway, i like the system. even with the lipo the esc wasnt even warm at all. and its definitely got plenty of power! and it was $130 off tower
