Slash and sc8 both will not bash well in the grass, revo is hands down best bang for the buck, flux has really weak diff and expensive to upgrade!!

I had a slash, then I got an SC8e.

For your purposes, neither truck will fare too well in long grass, though the nod goes to the SC8.

The SC8 will cost you less. Or, at least, will save you more trips to the LHS or waiting on parts.

Thoughts on the slash:
1. You will need this from King Headz.
2. You will need these shock caps because the plastic ones will strip out.
3. You will need a new pair of wheels and tires, because the stock tires are rock-hard / useless. Shortcourse tires / wheels are expensive, think $50 - 70.
That's about it, most other things that break are due to user error.

Thoughts on SC8e:
1. You can only buy the RTR now, which goes for nearly $600 +- 30 if you're including shipping.
2. You just need to get a couple of 4S batteries available here.
That's it, you're golden. Breakage due to user error will be relatively less than the Traxxas.

That's what I've been hearing a lot of. I think I'm just going to go with a Flux HP for now (got a good deal on one).

Great parts info though!! Thanks

Yup, the Savage is pretty boss for off-road running.

Gotta love reviving old threads I can get the SC8.2e for $100 cheaper than the Slash Ultimate. Which one do you guys think is the better buy?

Bit off topic but I'm more interested in the SC8.2e vs the MT4 G3? MT4 is $540 and SC8.2e is $599. Cheers

Both are excellent, I would read dedicated threads before choosing:
