Trackstar 150a or Xerun 80a for 1/8 buggy?
Just after some advice of those who have experience with these products.
I have a rc8be and looking for a cheap 1/8 esc (due to my current financial cricumstances. Would love a Tekin though, maybe in the near future).
Coming from 1/10, I have previously used 2 Castle MM ESC's, 1 Novak GTB and 1 Turnigy 60A ESC. All have been good, only Turnigy seems to have a bit more cogging at slow speeds but who goes slow anyways. The Novak has been my fave, ran cool and was super smooth. Castle was great but one ESC died due to one of those tiny screws falling off that mounts it onto the case (just a warning for others to check the screws if they have the Mamba Max ESC) and Castle 1/10 motors seem to get hot fast, dunno if they have updated them since.
Anyways that was offtopic, the story is, I would love a Tekin ESC but due to my current financial circumstances cannot afford one. PLEASE DONT TROLL for not getting a CC or TEKIN etc.
What would be a good cheap 1/8 ESC? I have narrowed it down to the Trackstar 150a and the Hobbywing Xerun 80a.
Both are similar prices but I am currenly leaning towards the Xerun as it seems to have higher standards in quality and I will only be running 4s so would prefer reliability over raw power. However doesnt seem to be available at Hobbypartz. Will they be restocked? Anywhere else that sells them?
Thanks for any suggestions.

The xerun 80a is a great esc. I've been using one in 4wd sc and one in a losi 8b tekno buggy. They work flawlessly. That price on hobbypartz is a trick. They seem mark items that won't be stocked with a super low sale price to drive traffic to their site. However, the xerun 80a is well worth the regular eBay price of $80.

If your going unsensored and only 4s you could also purchase the ezrun sc8 esc. I'm pretty sure that's designed to work in 1/8 buggy on 4s as well as 4x4 sc.
Yet another option you have is to search for the redcat racing 80a esc. It's black but looks identical to the xerun 80a. They call this one the RTR version of the xerun 80a. It's the same programming card and appears to have plenty of tuning options. It just doesn't have the sensor port. I don't recommend running sensored in 1/8 buggy anyway so it's no big deal. I found mine for $55 shipped on eBay brand new. That was a bargain for an 80a hobbywing esc.
The hobbywing Esc's are great quality. I don't run their motors though.

I can't see which motor you plan on using, but to be on the safe side: an XeRun 150A has been safe for all 1/8 motors I have used. If the motor pulls 80A, you should not use more than 80% of the max esc capacity. My 2 cents...

I have two Xerun 80A's and there very reliable and operate flawlessly. And like its already been said. They run extremely cool. I have one in my E Maxx 3905 paired with a Castle/Nue 2200 and a MMMv3 paired with the same motor in my Revo and the XE felt so much better. Extremely smooth of the start(absolutly no cogging at all) and the acceleration up to higher speeds felt better. I push the XE hard and it never breaks a sweat. The 2200 is rated at 120A and I have the motor geared 20/65 and still shows no stress running it hard.
The Trackstar looks like a TORO 150A, which these might be great, but the XErun has been used by many and provin reliable.
Plus you can get the PC/Field prog box for $20 and make adjust out on the track and on your computer along with update firmware.

Thanks guys,
Looks like I am leaning towards the Xerun 80a.
Will it handle the RC8Be ok? Are there any advantages of 150a over 80a if I will only be using 4s?
Thanks Stigno, I didnt really get what you were saying. Are there motor KV range I should avoid with the 80a?
Thanks

Thanks guys,
I think Im set on the Xerun 80a.
Will this work with this motor? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14632
Unfortunately Its a 2560kv (quite high).
Also, do you need the programming card or can it be programmed using beeps and transmitter?
I think Im set on the Xerun 80a.

Thanks, will it work with 4s?, just don't want to smoke the esc due to high kv motor.

Get the xerun 80 combo. The ESC is very good and the motor is just sick fast. I've never run anything like it. On my huge track here I can barely ever get full throttle. Even on the long straight, full throttle is just too much but it sure is fun having that kind of power.
