17.5 Ballistic in an SC10
So I just ordered a 17.5 turn Ballistic setup for my SC10. It has a stock tranny (other than a ball diff), and i'm currently running an 87 spur/16 pinion.
what gearing does the Ballistic love? Need decent top end, but also need some low end grunt for a small track.

Why does 75/24 or even 23 sound really tall to me. Does that give you enough grunt out of the corners?
I have a traxxas titan 12T (brushed, duh) in it now. Tried running 23/87 and it went into thermal. Is the brushless that much more efficient, therefore less heat?

There are guys at my track running 26/75 in there sc10. But with it that high they have said they cant run them even 1min past 10min or they overheat. They really push the limits with them.

Yeah I have tried 75/25 75/26 (nonboosted). It just gets too hot too quick on a small track where you need all the bottom end you can get. Its almost like standing starts at every corner. The high bite adds a lot of heat.
That ratio would work better on a flowing track where you are in the mid-top rpms and dont need the bottom torque as much.
On a 1/8 track (huge!) i have run 75/28 with boost and turbo and didnt come off the track as hot as i was indoor. That "grunt" makes a lot of heat if you dont watch it. Torque + low gear + traction = Nasty holeshot!
If you have practice time at your track this is where you need to be. Discover the different ways the truck feels. Make sure you temp often. Take a mental note of your lap times.

Godofcable are you setting the SC10 up for the same indoor carpet track you ran the slash on?

another vote for 25-26/75 no boost. I've run as high as a 27t but that's on a big track.

I would go with what gizmo had said. Starting around 23-24/75 and just run it and check temps. If I remember correctly there really isnt a long straight on that track so having top end wouldnt really be able to be used. Heck I might even go as low as 22 on that track.

indoor, small carpet track, tons of bite. I'm thinking about starting at 19/78, and check temps. I'll throw a couple of pinion choices in the box, maybe one or two teeth in either direction, and try them out. checking temps and lap times. lap times i'll be able to feel i think.
i dont want to jump teeth too big, too fast and wind up going too hot
