I'd also recommend going down there on a race night and see if you can drive some of the different brands, most guys are willing to help to see which one you preffer before purchasing.

Maybe a Schumachter CAT SX3? Schumacher cars perform well on astroturf and carpet.

I remember them being THE car in the late 80's, at least where I raced. Nice avatar btw .

Perhaps the Losi buggy deserves a mention? I have seen them go pretty cheap on Ebay.

AMain has B44s for sale for $229. You cant go wrong. Its not the best car, but, I think its the best car for the money.

Most of the parts will stay in production as they are still used on the B44.1

i still dont think you will be able to tell the difference if you picked up a b44 rather than a b44.1 and you will save a lot of cash too.

Had a B44 and it was and still is a great car straight out of the box.
Tryed a B44.1 and honestly can't feel any difference.
Just easier to slid the motor in/out, better shocks etc....but my laptimes was the same as with my B44.
Go for what ur local hobby store have in stock or what the other racers at ur track have. Easy to get parts, tips, setup etc....
Someone earlier reccomended a caster sk10 buggy, i got one and it's great but not out of the box. It needs a whole lot of uppgrades/parts for the diffs, slipper, shocks etc.....
Just my 0,2cents
