Advice needed for Hyper 9e build/setup
#1
Please help me with parts and setup for a new Hyper 9e build.
I'm fed up with my Savage X SS Nitro and after some research decided on a Hyper 9e buggy. Initially will be used for "bashing" (hate that term) on dirt/tarmac with the intention of joining a club in the future. Looking for a good comprimise of acceleration/top speed while avoiding overheating problems. Here's my current proposal:
- Hyper 9e (pretty much decided)
- Tekin RX8 ESC
- Tekin 2050Kv motor
- Elite RC motor mount
- 4s ????
- Airtronics MX3S (already own)
QUESTIONS:
1. Is 2050Kv motor OK given my needs? Seems like good midway point from what I've read.
2. What spur gear/pinion combo would be best for the Tekin 2050 and 4s lipo? I've read about clearance problems for some pinion gears which worries me.
3. Lipo suggestions?
4. Will the MX3S work OK?
I'm open to your advice and suggestions.
Totally new to 1/8 electric buggies so please be gentle!
Thanks, Elton.

I just picked one up too!
I came off a nitro hyper 8.5..... (2yrs ago)
So far I have the roller, and do not know what motor to put in either.
I am not going to be a racer by any means, but did want to mess around at a local track and parks etc. Basically, almost the same as you
I was thinkng 4s, 2650kv, and mmm unless there are better suggestions for my application.
Hopefully, someone can help us out.

If you have 4s lipos already I would go down to the 2000kv range, and if you already have the 2650, run it on 3s. I cant decide to buy 3s lipos and run the 2650 in mine now, or buy a lower kv motor and keep my 4s.....
But I am sure folks with a lot more 9e experience than me will chime in!

For lipos, I would go with the Gens Ace hardcases. http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-40c-50...-hardcase.html
That radio will work fine.
Hope this helps.

That combo sounds fine. To avoid having to grind down the heat sink fins on the motor, I think you're gonna need to run at least a 15t pinion, which is gonna be pretty fast. Grinding down the heat sink fins is no big deal though, 2min and you're done. Anyway, you can also turn the timing down on the motor to slow it down a bit.

Is there another way to solve the clearance problem? Seems strange that this problem exists out of the box. Does the Elite RC mount make a difference? What about changing the spur gear size to alter the gearing?

Here is the hyper 9E thread start here with my build and just a suggestion I would post any questions on that thread so you just get reply's from people that run that car.

OK thanks. When you say "at least" a 15t pinion, do you mean that smaller or bigger would be better? I dont have my 9e yet so I'm not familiar with what the exact clearance problem is. If I have to grind down the heatsink on the motor then what would be the ideal pinion and spur gear combo?

If you want to avoid the problem and still use a Tekin motor, get the 1900kv unit. That way you can run a 15t pinion for racing, or larger for bashing. You'll get the same speed either way. The problem is that the Hyper9e was designed for a 36mm can motor. The Elite RC mount does not help. As a side note, the smallest pinion you can run with the Elite RC is 14t, unless you modify the M-bloc
They do make an optional 43t spur that solves all of these problems. http://cgi.ebay.com/Ofna-Hyper-9E-De...f#ht_500wt_922 I personally don't like the extra teeth or the fact that it's plastic. And for some reason Nitrohouse removed it from the website. Take from that what you will.

For bashing you'll be fine with the 15t pinion. A smaller pinion will cause the motor to touch the center diff outdrive(you'll see when you get your car). If you run the car on a track, you'll want a smaller pinion for that motor.
