Default Battery help needed

Something has happened to one of my lipos. It balanced normally but when I put it in the car, the esc beeped and the car wouldn't run. I put another battery in and the car ran fine. When I put the one that gave me the error back on the charger, I got a low voltage error and the battery wouldn't charge. After reading on some other threads about how to bring a lipo back from the dead, I put it on my nimh charger @ 0.8 amps to try and bring the cells up above 3 volts. As soon as I put it on my cell voltage checker reported over 4 volts on one cell and 0.5 on the other!

I'm assuming something bad has happened and this battery is done. My question is how to safely dispose of it. Also, anybody have any ideas what could have happened to it?

The ESC might have a lipo cut off and not allowing the motor to engage hence the voltage in the pack is to low. What ESC are you running. I don't think putting the lipo on a NIMH charger is a good idea. You will probably end of damaging the lipo permanently and maybe cause a fire.

I was told to discharge it fully from your charger (but it takes awhile) or stick it on your bench and hook up a 1157 car bulb to it to discharge remaining voltage. Then it can be disposed of in your reg. trash.

I had a lipo go below 1V on one of the cells after being stored for a while. I charged it through the balance plug on the low cell until it was above 3V then charged it through the balance plug on all cells individually as 1 cell lipos on like .5 amps. Battery performed as normal until I got rid of it. Do this at your own risk though. If you are not very well versed in lipos I would discharge it and dispose of it as suggested earlier.

Same thing happened to me. Here is the thread and answers that worked for me:

When the discharging stops, wire the two leads together as a final step and then dispose.

When using NiMh mode to try and 'rescue' a low voltage lipo, be careful with high charge rates, I never use more than 0.5a - you want the voltage to come up slowly and if anything starts to happen with the lipo like swelling, you'll be safer using lower current than with higher currents.
