Hey gang,

I was just transplanting my Tekin 8.5 Gen 2 to a new buggy and noticed something that I thought was worthy of asking you guys here. When I finished soldering the tabs and went to install the motor, I noticed a slight bit of wiggle from the solder tabs, especially the A and C tabs. This motor has maybe 4 hours of indoor only use, never over 120*, and I have never left the solder iron on the tabs for long. My question would be, is a slight bit of wiggle from the solder tabs considered normal? I REALLY don't want to tear apart this motor with as little use as it has.

Thanks for any replies!!

The tabs will have a little bit of play/give to them. If the tabs have enough wiggle to them where they can move side to side and have the ability to touch another tab, that's when there can be a problem and needs to be addressed before running.

Thank you for the speedy reply Jeremy. The tabs have zero left to right movement, just a bit of forward and backward movement. I have only installed this in one car before so I never really paid attention to if the tabs moved at all when it was new. It sounds like this is normal and honestly what I wanted to hear.

Thanks again for the great support and speedy reply!

Default RPM range

Ignoring temperature for a moment...

Is there a max rpm range that I should be expecting to see if my car is geared correctly for a 8.5t motor? Should the max rpm's you see in the data log of a Tekin ESC be somewhere near the kV of the motor?

I've got a TLR 22 with a RSX/8.5 combo. It's got 10 degrees on the endbell, and the Tekin 25 deg timing map loaded. At the end of the long straight, I'm only seeing mid 30k rpm on the motor. Heat hasn't been an issue, but I'm wondering if dropping a tooth or two on the pinion would be good.

Thanks.

-Ryan

30k is about right in an off-road car. You will see a bit more rpm in a 4wd buggy which often uses lower turn(higher kv) motors.

Since you're racing "mod" you get a bit more flexibility on gearing as you can gear for the layout while making sure you have enough top speed with boost, etc.

If you're using the default timing profiles, your start and end are 5443, and 20,000 which is perfect for off-road 90% of the time. Since you're hitting 30k you're getting full boost application, so you're in a good spot.

AHHHHHH... I just finally upgraded to Gen 2's! What can I say, my Redlines are awesome. Been running the same 10.5/RS Pro for 6 years with out a hitch... Got a new 4wd buggy and bellied up for a Gen 2 6.5/RSX combo. Made a couple street runs and then had to change my undies

Keep up with the great product Tekin!

Ya Tekin Gen2 mods are pretty stout. Their mods are about a turn lower than the competition. Tekin 6.5 is about equal to a Reedy 5.5.
