Most RTRs come with cheap electronics . You could of bought a much better radio for a few $ more . I would of gone with a popular radio manufacture like JR , Spektrum , Ko Propo Futaba , and Hitec . They have good radios ranging from entry level to top line with good quality .

Most RTRs come with cheap electronics . You could of bought a much better radio for a few $ more . I would of gone with a popular radio manufacture like JR , Spektrum , Ko Propo Futaba , and Hitec . They have good radios ranging from entry level to top line with good quality . i removed the old wires and soldered in new more flexible wires. this is where i think the wires were damaged. there was a heavy bend in the wires and when i moved them (both + and -) the radio malfunctioned. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4152/...17fb3ee21e.jpg not much room in the battery compartment. the original wires felt brittle and were twisted inside when i inspected the case. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4152/...cf879cb0e7.jpg i found the battery holder unclips from the radio unit. i kept the plug. i cut the old wires with about 1 inch of original wire. i don't have any replacement plugs and i don't have plug wire removal tools. so i soldered the new wire to the old wire. (with the suspected section removed) http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4113/...2edba86168.jpg i had to buy a soldering iron. i went to radio shack and picked up this one for ~$23 USD. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4132/...8febafdb04.jpg here is how the butt splice looked before and after taping. i wanted to use shrink tube but i don't have any handy. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4124/...ef5ee22d2f.jpg after about a half hour of work i tested the unit. and happy to say the light went on. i don't know for sure if what i did actually fixed the problem. but for now it runs. i started up my car and ran it up and down the street a few times without incident. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4107/...75085aca9b.jpg i will probably upgrade controller. i just don't trust this one to not let me down. heading back to race track tomorrow to try out my set up. -pdx |
and nitro guys say they have to wrench a lot on their cars!!!! i have to say electric cars are not far behind in the wrenching department.

i found the problem with the radio.
the wires coming from the battery pack are faulty. i will try to post photos later today to show details. the battery compartment is the only accessable compartment on the radio. i opened it. i pulled it out and tried turning the radio on. the led's on the radio flickered when i moved the battery pack in my hand. a closer inpsection showed when i moved the wires connecting the radio to the pack i was able to get the radio to turn on. (indicated by green led's) not sure how i'm going to resolve this. i may try to trim the suspect wire down a quarter inch and solder it back in place. i will need to purchase a soldering iron. are all ready to race RC cars this way? i imagine building your own, one has control on the quality of all the car's components. oh well, i guess it's part of the learning process. -pdx |
i just ran my buggy at the track. it did well. i ran the radio/car for 2hrs.
right now i have a smile on my face. :D it appears as though the soldering of new wires corrected the radio issues. -pdx |
That`s good to hear !
