Then you will need a tranny case. I thought you were going from a ball diff to a gear diff.

7678 is the older standard size ball diff, this was included in the original b4's and used the 9574 transmission case with 3/8x5/8 outdrive bearings. The ASC9853 diff was originally brought in as an upgrade for the SC10 (which uses the 9826 trans case and newer metric 10x16mm outdrive bearings). So you either need ASC9574 and bearings or the 9853 diff kit.

So basically the size just went up? Is there a downside with the ball diff I got? I just wish the specifications were more specific to which cars... now I need to get more parts -.-

Will the 9574 tranny fit in my car?

I believe they just went to a different bearing mainly, there isnt any issues with running the older diff, might be a bit harder to source parts down the line but that would be it. the only difference is the outdrives, the diff internals are the same.

Yes the 9574 trans case will fit in your car.

i would assume the diff balls and such are the same right? Is there some outdrive that has bigger cups to suffice the bearing size?

ah yes, instead of picking up the whole 9853 diff to drop into you current setup you could just get ASC9852 and rebuild your current diff with these outdrives, everything will transfer over.

So just to clear things up so I know exactly what to get... Basically the difference from the Team Associated SC10 Ball Differential and Team Associated Differential Kit (older b4 one) is that the outdrive cups got bigger which in turn they made a bigger tranny case and bearing to suffice the new SC10 Ball Diff?

Since I have the bigger tranny and 10x16 bearing, what I notice is my Team Associated Differential Kit (old b4 one) is a weeee bit smaller on ONLY the outdrive cups which is the reason they don't sit in the bearings correctly.

So to solve the easier way, I can just get the bigger outdrive cups to fit the 10x16 bearing, but is the part where the balls contact the disc of the outdrive cup any bigger or smaller?

The other way is either I can get the whole SC10 Ball Diff Kit (which I don't want to do since I already built the one I got) or I can get the old b4 tranny and smaller 3/8x5/8 bearings, correct?

I use Amain to check part compatibility. Search a part number, then it lists on the description page what vehicles its compatible with. Very helpful

This is the way you want to go, the diff rings are the same. The only part you will need to change is the outdrives

Not always reliable, most of the time they are pretty good but have found in the past some things are off. Best way to check is the exploded diagram that came with your vehicle or to ask on here.

For example AMain states that the 9853 diff kit is only for use in the SC10 when in fact it will work in the B4.1 and T4.1 kits.

Idk what my lhs has in stock... Gotta see. So the rings are same size, does that mean they only made the cups larger to suit the new design?

Yes the outdrive was enlarged to fit the larger bearing, just the part that slides through the bearing. The diff rings and the remainder of the diff are the same.
