Default Help with Slash 4x4 Sand Setup/lowest pinion?

Hey guys, i'm new to the forum and to the hobby. I currently have a slash 4x4 and i just got some proline sandpaws or something for the beach runs(i live right next to the beach therefore sand runs). I heard from a friend that the stock pinion gear wouldn't cut it for sand runs....

So my question is what kind of pinion should i get to do runs in the sand? is it just pinion? or should i also change spur? currently at 13pin, 54spur

also what is the lowest pinion you guys have used in the SLASH 4x4?

Thanks in advance for your help and opinions...

I ran the stock pinion gear in both of my 4x4 slashes and they worked fine.. The only issue is getting sand in the pinion/idler gear area and wearing down the gears. With a 2wd slash we could totally seal off the gears without any issues.. I would just run the plastic gears and change them when sand destroys them..
