Default Lipo Battery started to Swell!

I was out driving my traxxas rustler with my Tenergy 25c 3500mah 11.1v 3 cell battery and for some reason my low voltage did not come on so the battery was ran down and when I took it out the back of it was swollen. Is the battery toast.

No, not toast.

In my experience with the 20 lipo's I own about half have the swelling problem. Seems they develop some gas and no vent...I know that feeling too...

Most will recharge and shrink back to normals size, especially after cool down.

I have one intellect stick pack that is 1/4" fat in the middle. Still use it, but won't fit in my RS4 anymore.

I always balance charge.

Just be careful - it it starts swelling again when you're charging, you should stop charging and take it outside. It may be unsafe to deal with further.

If it doesn't swell any more than it is already, its prob going to be ok - still, watch it for the next few charges and discharges.

Awesome, Thanks for the responces guys. Im going to throw it on the charger in the am. When chargeing lipos do I need to put it inside of anything. I have heard of peoople puting them in like lipo sacks or something, is that needed.

Also, is there anything else I should know about lipos thing to do and not to do. like after running them can ya just throw them back on the charger after they cool ect.

Personally....

I have 20 lipos from different manufactureres.
  • I do not use a charging bag
  • I do not store my lipos in a metal container
  • I have had two Nimh fires caused from exploding cells.
  • I have had zero Lipo fires from exploding cells
  • I have had one lipo fire from shorting out on a steering post

I always balance charge my batteries and store them fully charged.

I may be wrong according to some people, but it suits me and I have few problems.
