Not when a set of tires and rims is over $50 and you can saw then off in a 20 race...
Even if you get one together cheep, Maintenance on ANY 1/8 scale will be high
If you on a budget you should look at doing some 10th scale stuff. That can be done and maintained for about half the cost.

Pay for Castle or Tekin the first time, or you'll end up doing it later. Hobbywing/EZ-run may be alright in the short term, but when the time comes to service the controller or motor (this is not an if, it's a when) you'll be sorry you skimped. All three controllers might be good quality, but with Castle and Tekin you also get service and support. Talk to someone who has ever tried to deal with Hobbywing for service/warranty and you might reconsider your options.

Novak in a 1/8 buggy? N-N-N-O-OOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps if they had listened to us years ago when we tried telling them what we needed. We asked for low kv, large diameter 4 pole motors a long time ago but they apparently knew better than they guys actually running this stuff.
I think they finally "got it" last year when their stuff went up in flames more than it finished races... and they went back to the drawing board. Bottom line IMO is they got way behind the curve, and they need a complete overhaul from the ground up.
I have no doubt they can build a great system... but they haven't done it yet.
Castle gave us the first really good affordable 1/8 speedo. (Mamba Max) The MMM and MMpro are great. Tekin is really good too, and the sensored motors are a nice touch. I hope Castle does that some day... but they run awesome as they are.
MMpro is the most versatile speedo on the market, hands down... can run anything from a 3.7v 1/12 pan car to a 22.2v 1/8 scale.

Very true, but one has to be a bit more careful running the MMP in 1/8th vehicles compared to the MMM. It would be great with a sensored Tekin motor in a light buggy, but I think for a heavier truggy or MT I'd trade in the sensored capability for the added "toughness" of the MMM. Even though the MMP can handle 6S according to Castle it's still a 1/10th controller.

Exactly... the MMM is the more heavy duty esc and is recommended for hardcore setups and heavy cars/truggies. The MMpro is recommended for milder race setups, but still is one of the more potent escs on the market and would run circles around a Novak. LOL
I ran the MM for 2 years... and have the MMM in my car right now. But I will be going back to the MMpro if summer ever gets here.
I think a really great setup if you start from scratch... would be a MMpro and 1200-1300kv motor, on 6s. And keep the running weight down... around 7.5lbs, not a 8.5-9lb porker. That could be a very efficient, cool running setup.

When I decide to get buggy I'll be doing exactly that. Great setup there. But then again, by the time I get to that point who knows what Castle will have up there sleeve!?!? (Phoenix Ice HV w/ car firmware...???)

That is coming, from what I have heard.... I think 10s would be a nice round number

They work very fast.

If you do you research, you can find the castle mmm 2650 for 230 bucks for the combo, Thats what I am running in my budget buggy. I have always been pleased with castle, they are a great company with great products

You can get the Hobbywing Xerun esc and pick the motor of your choice from Kershaw Designs out of Pennsylvania for around 150.00 and if you have any problems send it back to him for service. Shipping and communication was very quick also. That might be an option also.

I think the Castle MM Pro is sensored.

Castle mm pro w/ like a 1300 & a 3.5k 6s lipo would be rocking. It would be buttery smooth, fast, light, and cheaper. It would also put less strain on the electronics too.

I haven't run it w/ this setup, but I would think it should handle it no problem. The safe sure answer would be an xerun 150 on 6s w/ a mild motor. Your goal would be to put down the same power as a 1900 on 4s, but in a 6s config. The lower your amps, the less likely you will smoke your stuff. Think tekin 1400 for buggy if you go a rought like this. I'm sure that if you called up CC they could tell you if its a good setup or not.
