B4 gearing

B4 gearing
I have a B4 with a brushed 15 or 16 turn Trinity Speed Gem and a LRP Ai ESC (stock ESC from my T4). I finished bashing and I constantly check temps on the motor. The motor was at 170 and I went off a final jump before I stopped to cool it down and my connector on my ESC to my battery came unsoldered. So I checked the temp on the ESC and it was 195-200 I am running a 81 spur with a 24 pinion. I feel I am geared too high, yet the motor temps never got over 170ish. What gearing do you guys recommend. I have heard some people go up to a 87 spur like the T4, but what if I went down to like a 72 spur. What would that do? I will get a brushless for the B4, but it is not happening for a little while so I want to make the most of my brushed set-up. Thoughts, experiences, ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Going smaller spur = higher gear ratio = hotter faster.
Drop from 24T pinion down to say 21T as a start. Top-speed will be a bit lower but you'll put far less stress on the motor and ESC. Overgearing = fast and fun for a short while but you end up spending money if you burn stuff up.

I had a 16T Speed Gems on my B4 a while back, and ran it on a 21 or 22 tooth depending on how loose the track was. Temos never got too high. Like the others said, with brushed the temps are lower. You should be able to touch the can for at least a second after a run.

poor kid needs a brushless, but then again many folks look at the variety of ratios others use now and it confuses even more. especially in onroad.
