okay here's another idear, if i use about 1300 to 1500 mAh per run,
would these batterys handle it,
if I wired four packs in paralle. it would give me a 4000mAh 7.4v pack,
cause each cell is only 1000mAh would they handle the 1300~1500 mah run?

okay, just a quick question, not about you pack, but what would be the out come if you had two packs of 1000mah 2s1p and joined the two pos wire together (as they go into the connector for the e.s.c,) and also the same for the neg wires,,
would you end up with a 7.4volt 2000mah saddle pack or a couple of fire balls
thanks in advance..

battery REDS + to esc red
battery BLACKS - to esc black
Yes a 7.4 2000 pack.
Before I did the D.I.Y. thing I had a Y-connector (with Deans) to connect my two lipos.
One of the reasons I did the D.I.Y. is because one of the lipos came unpluged and I was racing on one pack. Still finished 1st BUT I noticed a very marked lose of power at the 8 minute mark (10 minute main).

You would have to have a cell go bad (example >> broken solder joint) before you could see a problem.

Great write-up.
I have a need to open a turnigy 3s 5000mah cell after today when all of a sudden it stopped working. Measuring from my multimeter, it seems that there is 0v between red and black discharge cables.
There is 4.19v between balance plugs: black and yellow,
There is 8.17v between balance plugs: black and blue,
There is 0v between balance plugs: black and red.
There is 0v between balance plugs: red and yellow and red and blue.
Seems the positive lead (red) has been broken (maybe the tab inside.) I'll need to open it up and have a look.
Thanks for the graphical write up. Also thanks to tmail55 whom pointed me to this thread a week ago.

One of the guys that I race with (AND never beat!) had a SMC C-Max 5200 swell, one side opened on the hard case, he was going to toss it so I asked for it.
Two things I found,
1. the cells are glued and taped into the hard case, the glue released on one side, a cell didn't swell. It doesn't have a hard case now!
2. listed as a two cell, BUT its a four cells wired as a two cells.

I have a Core-RC 3250 lipo that lost its balancing at the balance plug, carefully opened the end of the hard case and the red wire was loose, solder it back on everything is OK now, other than I have a hole in the end of the hard case.
