The rules say you can use any stock tires. From what I have been reading, the losi SC truck has the nicest stock tires. Get the nice tires, F/R spring kits, shock oil, and a decent lipo (25c or higher discharge rate). This class is all about driving, you will not achieve any significant advantages with your truck setup.

Hey guys. I finally put my daughters SC10 back together that I picked up used.
Good electronics on it for a good price. Only real issue is that the gear diff looked a bit beat up and I can hear the gears clicking every so often when I test it out.
so my question is this, I am used to building ball diffs, and this has a gear diff. The plastic outer teeth that mesh with the rest of the transmission looks good however the internal gears did look warn.
Is it worth it to stick with the gear diff for kids usage or, should I just upgrade her to a ball diff since that is what I know. I know they say the gear diffs are supposed to be highly realiable and she will be using stock motor power.
If I do decide to go with a ball diff, other than the obivous ball diff setup (outdrives, gear, diff and thrust balls, etc) is there anything else I need to do to fit one of this in on a car that originally was using a gear diff?
Thanks again.

The SC10 uses a metric bearing on the diff out drives and the transmission case is slightly wider than the older B4/T4 case. The out drives are made to fit the SC10 gear box perfectly.

Hello all! I am hoping that some of you in here can help answer some questions I have about the SC10. I have recently decided that I would like to start racing short course at my LHS, and have done lots of research on the best SC options... coming to the conclusion that I want to get an Associated 2wd SC10. However, I am going to be running in the "modded" class and don't know what my best option is.
I looked on eBay and found a new SC10 with no electronics for $190. Then, I went on Tower Hobbies and found a new 2wd SC10 brushed RTR model for $199. I plan on putting a Castle Creations motor/esc in it so I was planning on getting the roller... but for $10 extra I mine as well get the brushed RTR. But my question is, if I get the brushed SC10, can I just put the CC Sidewinder SV2 right into the brushed motors place... or am I going to need special brushless mounts? What do you guys think is the best route to go if I plan to put on my own motor, ESC, receiver, and servo?
One other question... if I were to buy a stock 2wd SC10 and plan to race it, what are some upgrades that you guys would recommend right off the bat? I know when it comes to my Traxxas Mini Erevo, there is a list of upgrades that EVERYONE recommends to newbs, so I didn't know if there was one for the SC10. Thanks for all of your help... I appreciate it!

If you plan on putting your own ESC and motor in it I would just suggest buying the Factory Team kit. Its like 239.00 on tower hobbies. You will get all the upgrades you are asking about and a better truck. You get better shocks and all the little blue goodies that come with the FT kit. Just upgrading to the V2 shocks vs. the RTR is like $80 bucks by itself. And trust me you will definitely want the V2 shocks over the RTR. Just my .02 though.

I plan on going the 2wd route because after talking to guys at my LHS, I was told that the 2wd version is cheaper and much more reliable. Do you think that the 4x4 is worth the repair time and cost that it is, or would you recommend the 2wd to? Thanks!

Thanks for your help! Now that I take a look at the Factory Team kit, I agree it's a nice option. Do you know if the only difference between the RTR and the Factory Team Kit is the shocks? Also, I would assume the Factory Team Kit is setup for a brushless motor?

$100.00 - $124.99 $15.00 016R1
$125.00 - $149.99 $20.00 016R2
$150.00 - $199.99 $25.00 016R3
$200.00 - $224.99 $30.00 016R4
$225.00 - $249.99 $35.00 016R5
$250.00 - $299.99 $40.00 016R6
$300.00 or more $50.00 016R7
Here are some codes for Tower Hobbies. Now your FT SC10 will be 210.00, or if you spend more than 300 you will get 50 bucks off... Merry Christmas... I completely agree you should get the FT truck... Comes with better shocks, battery strap, ball Diff, Carbon arms, shock towers, CVD's, more tuning options, JConcepts tires on the rear... All the pretty blue stuff, It's just a better truck... IMO... "Setup for Brushless"... There is no difference in the setup of the truck. But to get the full potential out of these newer trucks I would reccomend Brushless, I personally run Viper electronics, but there are a ton of options. I suggest going to your local track and see what everyone else is running. This way you will have help if you have some issues or if you need help with setup, gearing, etc...
Start off with 2WD... IMO...
