I was thinking about trying a Zippy or Rhino for this place..http://www.hobbycity.com I know I should pay for Maxamps, but I think a lot of that is paying for the name now. Yeah racing has some cheap ones too.
$80 for a 4S 4000mah
They might not be the greatest, but I think they should work to do some practicing. Once I get into it a little more and figure things out, it would be easier to justify a nicer pack or two.
EDIT:
I did a trial run of the checkout process, just to see how much shipping is. $32 for two packs (3-5 day delivery). I suppose its still cheaper then $200 packs, but with the steep shipping prices, I wonder where they are shipped from?
Company seems to be hongkong based...
Professionalism
HobbyKing is a registered business within Hong Kong. Unlike so many other online traders, HobbyKing is legally required to comply with Hong Kongs government consumer body the 'HKCC' (Hong Kong Consumer Council) which ensures all customer complaints and queries are followed up and dealt with correctly.
Probably safe to say, if you have problems, you toss them away and find something new.?.?

I have purchased two packs from hobbycity (zippy's) 5 day delivery from Honk Kong. I shorted out one pack so it is history. I needed a couple more packs and bought them from Neu in San Diego -5s 4300mah $125.00...no shipping I picked them up. Check out there web site.
I raced last night with my new brushless system-1512 2.5d (2050kv) the neu packs in a mbx6 14t pinion stock diffs and spur. I made a 15 min main and recharged....the packs excepted 3400 mah,. I would say pretty efficient although I was not driving the wheels off it...getting used the the handling and brushless car. I raced at Revelation here in SoCal ,it is a pretty big track approx 210 ft straight.
I did notice the last couple of laps (50sec laps avg.) when I pinned it it did not respond like in the beginning. I think I had the cut-off to high and when asked for more current it cutoff.
Bottom line I had blast and everything worked. There was only one other BL there ,got alot of attention for sure. There is always a good turn out at Rev, very popular track in SoCal Mnay nights it is a whos who of racing. Travis Amezcu, Drake, Chad Bradley, Kortz on an on even Jammin Jay himself last night, I have seen them all there. It is fun to watch these guys lay down the laps.

I shorted out a zippy. Plugged in the MMM power leads backwards on the esc. Also I think the MMM is blown out. I sent back to CC. One cell on the 4s zippy is now zero volts. I am thinking of making it a 3s pack and run indoors at OCRC which is what the 8th scale BL's run there ....small track.

Thanks everyone for their help. I placed an order for everything this afternoon. I ended up taking most peoples advice and sticking with the high capacity 4S packs.
Should be good times. Thanks again,

run times
I am running a rc8 tekno conversion with Mamba Monster 2200 motor running 2 2S 5000mAH 20c 7.4 volt packs and I get about 13 min run time. I am so new to this it crazy but i sure want to understand what the best approach is to get 20 min. Should I be using 11.1volt 5000mAH 6s 20c Packs? I read thru the total thread but mabye I am to simple to get the math! I would be very greatful if someone could spell it out for me again i apologize right now because i do feel a bit silly asking for a direct anser but i want to buy the right packs. (to expensive to make mistake) Thanks for all of your help

I helped Ryan Maifield with the RC8e he ran at the J-Concepts Clash.
This is what he ran, Castle Combo with 2200 Kv motor geared 15/46.
He used 2- Reedy 35C 5000mah wired in series, 4S voltage.
In the main which was 12 minutes he used 3800 mah.
He said he drove a little conservative as we weren't 100% sure how long the car would run. Now keep in mind this is RM and I'm not sure he knows what conservative is.
Just figured I'd pass along what we've seen.

hy i'm planning too a e-conversion fro the rc8buggy.
I'dont know wich system is better ,
MMonster + Neu Castle 2200
MMonster + Neu Castle 2600
MMonster +Medusa MR-036-050-2200V2-5
im going with 5s 4000,25c, im thinking about medus cause 1515 is too big for a buggy, but anyway medusa are running hot.
Im looking for a good performance betwen fast&crazy and running time, not for competition.
thanks! sorry for my bad english!
