Why do 1/8 scale buggies have center diffs and 1/10 scale buggies not?

8th have center diff's for better cornering and adjustable brake bias.

Why thenth scale doesnt have them beats me. maybe it didnt work well.

Or it was overly complex to put it in the tiny cars.

I think the slipper acts as a center diff in situations such as landing under power rear wheels first...

Probably because it was too complex and hard to put it in 1/10 scale, and they run just fine without it, don't they?

Note that 1/8 buggies usually have gear diffs, which are much tougher and dont need adjusting a screw compared to 1/10 ball diffs. Would you really want another ball diff in your 1/10?

Obviously tradition played a role too.

Because all the manufactures simply copy the same designs that have been around for years. There's no reason you couldn't put a diff in there. Another option is why are we still using ball diffs and not oil filled diffs? Serpent stepped up and offered an oil diff on the S400 but it seems no one else is jumping on-board this option.

Because electric cars don't have mechanical brakes, so there's no way to adjust brake bias...

Does the Losi 8e have mechanical brakes?

No, it uses a standard 1/8 electric direct motor approach.

Unless you take a regular 8ight and use the TeknoRC conversion kit on it.

I've actually been considering locking up the center diff in my Caster Fusion EX-1 just to see how it would handle. I really don't see a huge advantage to a center diff in an electric 1/8th scale. Seems like the extra braking would be quite helpful. Of course you would have to be a little careful on the throttle in order to keep the nose down.
