zip free vs. buggy grip
 

just as the title says. whats the difference? when do you use one over the other?

I've always ran Zip Free on clay tracks where you run slicks or almost slicks. CRCRC or Factory Tracks are good examples. Buggy Grip is usually used on tracks where you run more of a pin, at Washtenaw or SoCal, where you run Holeshots or X-2000's.

Mixing them 50/50 is the best thing I have used.

what about the zip grip stuff? i just some and put it on one of my tires and it seemed to make the tire alittle softer, and alot stickier.

Zip softens the tires quite a bit more . I used buggy grip on the clay at first, and had no where near as much grip as the zip gives me now.

Ever use Goof Off? :sneaky: I run slicks or nearly slicks on an all-clay track.

Goof Off is Citrus degreaser. I have never tried it on rubber but I can see how that would work. The biggest difference I noticed between Zip Free and B.G. was the B.G seemed to be more oily. If you run a track where the best traction is achieved by getting dirt to stick to the rubber then the less oily stuff seems to work better, hence the 50/50 mix. I have also tried WD40 with decent results but it doesn't work as well on wetter dirt because the leftover oil repels the water in the dirt a little.

i have never used any of these before, an i have a question, on my losi Truggy what should i use for offroad clay tracks?
btw i run losi XTT's 70% of the time & Hole Shots 30% of the time(mosly for hard packed clay tracks)


also, how do i put it on? how long do i let the tires sit? how offten do i put it on?

I think the best thing to look for when looking for unconventional tire compound is something on the label similar to "DO NOT USE ON RUBBER"!! If you see that then you probably have something!!! :lol:

Try to find a tire with bars in the center and micro-pins around the edge. Losi Taper Pins and and Panther Switch/ Switch 2.0 are good examples. If the track is wet, use slicks. If it's moist drying, use a half-worn tire. Go for the losi Pink Compounds or Panther Clays.

With the zip, rub it in with the applicator and let it sit. The sooner the better, as it soaks in. keep applying until the tire feels tacky but looks dry.

theres also simple green been using that for about 10 years. helps get the tires sticky. also a bottle is only about 4 bucks and i just use it 100% no added water.

The buggy is better. It is faster, buggies kick but

i use simple green to clean the tires and then use pb blaster i put it in a bingo dabber and just rub it on my tires about ten min. before my race

As a guy who has been in the rubber biz for longer than I care to admit, you are essentially correct. These products attack the rubber, actually breaking it down a little, reversion being the big word for the days' lesson. Thus making it a little softer and 'gummy', or stickier.
