[QUOTE=oople;4894134]You can use what motor you like of course, but 4.5 is too much for any off road track. It's also massively undergeared. I didn't even know they made 12t pinions - I've never seen one before.

QUOTE]

We used to use 12t pinions and 93 spurs on RC10T's using a 16 double to be able to make time with 1400SCR packs. Thank goodness the 1700SCE came out.

i got the small pinions from when i was running 1/12 looking at the orion gear chart posted in another thread, i should be running a 13.5:1 ratio haha, i was way off with the 12t pinion ill try another pinion this weekend

re. the 501x outdrives, is this part a direct fit? i just remove the stock 2-pc. metal/plastic outdrive and drop it in? everything else from the ball diff - thrust bearing, pulley, balls, etc etc - will be reused?

thanks again

yup, the 501X outdrives is a direct fit. Everything else is reused. I'd replace the stock diff balls with something better too since you already have the diff apart - either carbide or ceramic. The stock ones last about one rebuild before they get gritty to the point of no return.

Default Monitoring motor temps and performance

I was hoping someone might shed some light on this subject... I am currently running my Durga for off-road club racing. I'm starting with the Rookie class since I am new to RC racing.

I have spend a couple weeks gathering the math to calculate gear ratio's, rollout, estimated MPH etc. All these numbers help to determine possible pinion choices and expected changes to your car when you swap out a motor, tires, etc - which is all great!

The one thing I have had trouble finding is the expected temperature tolerances for brushed and brushless motors.

Most have said that you want to keep your motor below 160F after a 5min run and never exceed 175F (both brushed and brushless).

I ran a new Trinity 27Turn with a 19T pinion last night... After 5min the motor temperature was pretty spot on at 155F (ESC was at 140F). I let it cool and put it through a longer 12min run and tested again - The motor was 178F and the ESC was 156F...

I also tried running a higher tooth pinion and as predicted it ramped up the temps after 5min runs so I backed down to the 19T since it appears to be safer overall.

Can anyone confirm if these temps are normal for a brushed motor? I cut the vents in the body (protected it with fly screen) for added airflow, but have not made the 'hot weather' cut in the rear since I am still running slow motors. Thanks.

Dan

So Lower Number means higher rate, Ling? I'm confused.

as it is a weight rating, the higher the number, the harder the spring.

Ling,
Any chance you can measure the other Tamiya buggy springs?
DF-03 springs - black, gold, silver (53927)
DF-02 Springs - red, yellow, blue (53702 and 53701)
DF-03 white springs - red dot, yellow dot, blue dot (49431)

I'm making a chart.

Thanks!

sim, these two sets of springs are the same, just coated in white.

gold=yellow (medium)
silver=blue (hard)

Default Spur?

Is there a aftermarket spur that will work in the Durga in stock form and with the optional slipper so i can use my
48p pinions and not Tamiya odd 48p gears?
This may have been answered before but i can't find it.
Maybe a spur gear adapter or spurs from another brand of car.I don't like the noise from the mismatched pitch from the gears.
Also any hop-ups needed right off ? besides slipper and shocks.
What aftermarket shocks and wt. oil are using?

thanks
