Default Spread Spektrum Compatability for Novak GTB

Novak's new GTB Spread Spektrum ESC claims it needs to have a "spread spektrum" transmitter to use it.

My question is this...

Does it have to be a "spektrum" transmitter (like the DSM's) or just use the Spektrum module and receiver? I'm using an Airtronics M8 with the spektrum module and receiver and want to try the new GTB "SS" version.

Tech support at Novak is closed till July 9th so I figured I'd try here.

From the teamnovak.com web page:

Always a technological leader, Novak has upgraded the GTB ESC to work with spread spectrum systems from manufacturers such as Spektrum™, Nomadio™, and Futaba™. Since spread spectrum technology uses a much higher frequency, 2.4Ghz to be precise, this has allowed Novak to finally unleash the full potential of the GTB speed control. Both new GTB models now have significantly faster MOSFET switching speeds, which provide improved performance and cooler operating temperatures. In short, the ESC gets power and increased operational efficiency at the same time!
You should read the specs page for the Spread Spectrum (not "Spektrum"), all your answers are there:

Only the SS GTB (#1711) is intended for 2.4Ghz use...and you can use it with any 2.4Ghz radio.

Yeah I read that Joe but if you're using their module and receiver then aren't you using the 2.4 Ghz system?

Huh? Novak doesnt make a 2.4GHz system. They are saying you can use it with Spektrum, FASST, or Airtronics 2.4Ghz systems. Just no crystals.

No, Novak only makes standard stuff (27 and 75 Mhz), not the newer 2.4 Mhz stuff. With that particular ESC, you can only use 2.4 Ghz...Spektrum, DSSS Sanwa, Nomadio, etc.

Ok guys I got my answer.

I spoke to a techy a moment ago at Horizon and they said as long as your transmitter can utilize the Spektrum module and receiver then you are running the 2.4Ghz spread spektrum system. I only questioned it because Novak's spec page didn't mention using an Airtronic's Transmitter.

Ummm...NO...

You can only use the spread spectrum GTB with a 2.4Ghz system...whatever the brand. Just because your transmitter can take a Spektrum, doesn't mean it's 2.4Ghz.

A stock M8 or M11 isn't 2.4Ghz...unless it actually HAS a 2.4Ghz module (from Spektrum or Airtronics), it's not 2.4Ghz and you can't use it with a 1711 Novak.

My hunch is that if you're asking these questions, you don't have 2.4Ghz.

What radio do you have or are you planning on getting?

Horizon Tech Support said it would work.

I guess I need to talk to Tech Support at Novak to be sure?...

I was just going by what you said ^^^^^^^^here^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

An M8 with a Spektrum would work just fine.
