I too am considering one day converting my Losi 8ight to brushless. Especially after seeing a buddies home conversion run at the track a few times. Most the nitro guys have a tough time keeping up with him.

Here's a short clip of it running.

You should look at the specs for all of the motors and see what motor to buy. In the 1515 series a 1.5D is 2700 KV, a 1Y is 2200 KV, and a 2.5 (like mine) is a 1700KV. Where you get in to problems is you can only get from a 12 to a 20 tooth pinion so if you go silly with a motor you can't gear it for speed or slow it down enough with gear. I learned this out with my first motor (not my 2.5 Neu), I need a 5S to run it due to Truggy not having enough speed even with a 20 pinion and a 44 spur on 4S. I suspect the total power is about the same just the RPM is different given using the same voltage battery pack.
Thanks for this info.

I know my buggy's diff ratio and can calculate from that and the tire size what center driveshaft RPM I need for a certain speed (for example, about 7800RPM for 30MPH). My question is, what speed (in MPH) should I shoot for to select the motor? I'm running on a very tight track - the longest straight is maybe 60 ft and it has a single and two doubles in it. One issue is that I will be using NiMH batteries - probably 12 cells or so (track rules - don't ask). Is 30MPH a reasonable speed to plan for? How much flexibility do I have in gearing these things? Do I pick a motor RPM and gear accordingly or a gear ratio and choose a KV from that?

Someone on RC monster has a speed calculator. I have not used it but you may want to see if it will help you.

If you remember the connectors that some people used for a while (Sermo, Lightspeed, or Powerpole) that you soldered the connector on the wire and slid into a red or black housing. Tower still sells them under Duratrax. My point is that the company that make them sells several larger connectors for higher amps. The ones sold were either the a 35 amp or a 75 amp connector. I think that Anderson Powerpole or something like that is the web site. I was looking for a HV application for work. They may have something useful for us in the bigger connectors.

The Plastic spur does not fit a Torsen Diff or spider diff. Just the original beveled gear diff components are compatible with the Kyosho Diff housing.

I have complete Kyosho Diff assemblies for sale. Kyosho Part # IF344.
They are not listed on the web site yet. I just got them. You can also pick them up off of Ebay at good prices.

I just got my MM & 1515 1y setup running in my ERT. I only ran it for 5min or less in speed runs & the ESC temps got to 150 fairly quick . The ambiant air temp is 90 plus. I have a fan on it but i only has a 13t pinion so it might be over geared a bit. I'm using 4s 8000 maxamp lipo's. I did the 12g wire upgrade & im using this ESC set up. I need to get a smaller pinion. The smallest hardened pinon that rc-monster sells is a 12t. does anyone know were i could get a 11t or maybe a 10t hardened pinion ?.
