With the two 5000 packs I thought for sure I would get 10 to 12 min of run time easy. I love 1/8 electric I think it could save off-road eletric racing
What track did you race at ?

At OCRCin Huntington Beach, we run the Novak HV with sucess, you have to run the fan on the speedo. The motors are great for 10th scale size tracks. The sensored motors are super smooth and no bog , cog or hesitation. The motor is too high of a KV to run on large outdoor 8th scale tracks. We have run 10 min. mains with no problem . We run twin 5000 2s packs and no problem with run time.

ocrc is tiny compared to most tracks.

the novak stuff will fail everywhere after 8 min max. no one here can finish a 10 min main with novak stuff and this is a small-med track

i like to use two packs in series. reasoning is if you damage one by chance, you are only out 1 small pack instead of 1 big pack. works for me.

Just raced my RC8e this last weekend. It ran perfectly.

Motor temped 145 after 12 mins plus some warmup. I was in second and did not have a second set of batteries to swap too. This system has met my expectations if it shows to be duarble over time.

RC8E
MMM 220KV combo.
2 - Reedy 5000 20 lipos
16/16 gearing
Track was a Med sized track.

Hope you dont mind I ask in this thread but im getting a databse error when opening new thread.

Which cooling fans 50mm are you using to cool your esc and motors?
I have Ezrun 80A and both fans lasted few runs.
Do you know a tougher fan offroad abuse?

Oddly enough, the most durable fan I've had, was the Novak 25 mm fan. Might be worth a shot, you could run two side by side:

For a truggy I'd get a MMM and 2200 motor combo. That pushes my buddies truggy around with ease and anger. The Novak and Losi systems seem to be less reliable and heat up much easier.

I ran the Novak 6.5 HV system last year in my Tekno converted E Revo and then in my Tekno converted Losi 8ight T and it did great on 3s. I was able to make at least 15 minutes on two different medium sized tracks with my Maxamps 8000HV 3s battery. I had no cut outs on my truggy at all and it never over heated. I did have a Novak auxillary fan on top of the motor mount though. I did however run a receiver pack since I was only running on battery. If I remember right on the Novaks if you use the factory wiring setup it only uses one of the 2S batteries for motor power and the other one to power the servo and receiver. I had my truggy geared with a 13 tooth clutch bell and the stock spur, I can't remember the size. I am however switching over to the Tekin setup this year in the Truggy and jumping to a 5S battery.

LBCkevin, This is Josh Barry from Camarillo I was racing on our new off-road track I would like to run this car at Rev, HotRods and OCRC so maybe I'll buy the tekin setup........On second thought I'll gear down two teeth and call Novak to see if they have any suggestions on keeping this ESC from thermaling.

having lower kv motors using the same motor / esc platform simply wont work. yes if they came out with a say 10.5 it would run cooler but it would be so slow that nobody would consider using it in a buggy or truggy. and the bashers always want max speed so they would not want it as well.
they need to do a ground up revision of their system if they want to be in the mix.
