cv or cv-r?

if you dont have a huge track, cv and cv-r are fine. The tz has tons of power. My friend just used his for the first time yesterday, and his comments were there is slow, medium and super fast.

I had both the CV-R and TZ .12 in my factory team GT that I had last year.
The TZ is plenty fast enough....trust me! The CV-R didn't have any low-end power at all though. I had to drop several teeth with the clutch bell from the TZ, and the CV-R still didn't have any low-end (no, it wasn't some sort of driveline drag issue). The CV-R might be better with the new GT2 though, because it is supposed to be geared to have more low-end.
I don't know for sure if the threaded shaft TZ with the NTC3 clutch nut will work with the GT2 or not, but if it will that's what I would go with...and probably will in a few months...lol. If it doesn't fit, then I'll go with the short shaft version that I know the NTC3 nut will work with...Good luck!

Hey. My cv-r is sweet. Tons of bottom end running stock spur and bell. just over 2 gallons,220 never needs tuning.wheelies around the banked corners of my track. Buying another one for sure. The Tz is super powerfull,i would say its too much for most 2w dirt racers. plus i think the price diff is over 240 buxs. Just my 2 bits. Later. Dan

For the price, the CVR is sweet, but I think my next engine will be the TG. The TZ is a monster, and honestly, too much power for gas trucks. Even the CVR will overpower my truck if I really wanted it to.

im runnin a .12 tz in my gt2 and i'll say it has a little too much low to mid for the truck, i've been trying different gears to remedy this and so far the ntc3 clutchbell with a 25 tooth gear on it is what im using, this has dropped my low end punch down enough to not wheelie the truck after every corner, but with that said the truck feels a little sluggish out of the gate. unlike the cv-r which is by all means a good engine the tz is very punchy in the low and mid area, especially with the gt2 which is geared low anyways. i would also recommend the .12 cv-r with the hyper head conversion making it a .12 tr. that is a great truck setup, good low end great mid and a decent top for the long tracks, plus it's very fuel efficient. just my opinion tho.

Another minor point is that while the TG costs a little more, you will have to purcahse a different header to run the CVR, because the GT2 comes with a header for rear exhaust. The TG is rear exhaust which will work with the header in the kit. And yeah, typically the rear exhaust engines get better fuel mileage, another benefit.
