Blown Motor
today, i wa runnin stock truck, dont know what motor, but it was runnin funny. I brought it in right before the race, and i could move the pinion around in the can about a 1/16th inch. I threw it together, and about 4 minutes into the race going down a straight, the thing starts pouring out smoke. It looked cool, but how bad is it hurt.
It was about the 10th run on the motor. I thought it overheated, but i dunno

sounds like bushings were worn out and the comm was touching the magnets to me lol if there was smoke id say it is done for hehe

Umm, how the hell would you get the comm to touch the magnets.....even if the bushings were fully worn out, its physically impossible, as the diameter of the arm would prevent it.....not to mention its ABOVE the magnets....

AreCee: that's funny stuff!!!
eddieO: i think he meant the armature touched the magnets....i agree the comm would never get close to the magnets...
derrick: post a little more info about which motor, what brushes and springs it had, pinion and spur gear size in what vehicle. it'll be easier for us to help then...but from the sounds of things, you're motor is toast...

Go and hit the motor with a hammer or go and use it for bum paper.......

I was told it was a snowbirds stock handout. Im runnin the stock spur/pinion on a T4. I took the motor apart, the bushings were gone, and i had a broken wire on one of the arms of the armature.
Even though i saw money being wasted, that smoke show was sweet.

The best way to fix this is to first find the appropiate recepticle(Trash) and put the old motor in it. Second, rush down to your local hobby shop and extend 2 jacksons for either a CO27 or a Monster Stock. I would get the CO27 because it has more torque than the Monster but the same rpm on top. Make sure to gear this engine correctly. The pinion that came with the truck more than likely will not give you the correct ratio.
