HB Racing D2 Evo
#136
When I built the kit I noticed this oversight on HBs part and added a foam gasket between the motor plate and the transmission case. I also run on indoor clay so there's not much to be worried about, regardless I have been inspecting the internals for dust and everything looks like new.

Going to build one of these kits. Does anyone have pinion recommendations for carpet/turf?

Another question, anyone have a servo recommendation for this car?
#140
Servos vary by opinions and budgets. Name brads like Protech, Savox, ext all make nice fast and strong servos. I use a Savox 1268 in my 1/10 buggies and trucks. Milage varies but I've got some unbranded servos that work great also. I look for specs around .10/250oz-in, High voltage digital servo.

Thank you, I was going to go with Savox or protek, thank you.
In terms of motor, I'm going to run it 17.5. R1 - V21-S and an R1 super stock ESC.
Thanks again.

I use the same esc/motor. Not sure what my timing is at at the moment but last I used. 28/78 pinion spur and was a good start to see where I was at.

Front Arms
So, I tried my new D2 Evo, with the kit front arms. Broke on my first run... unsurprisingly. Am I better off going with the V2 version, or just switching out to AE? Have people tried the v2 with success?

I ran the kit arms for a couple weekends no issues, eventually they failed and I went with the V2 arms and haven't had any issues.

Anyone have a good shock tower protector solution for the D2? For carpet?
#147
Noticed different offset hexes available for front and rear...which ones work if I want to run associated B6/B7 wheels?
#148
Also, noticed they have 69.5mm rear dogbones available. Doesn't really appear on any set up sheets, except for Pavidis using the AE 69mm bones. What would be purpose of using longer dogbone? Kit comes w/ 67.5mm.

Found somewhat of an explanation here...so thought I would answer my own question.
Tuning with drive shaft lengths
Tuning with drive shaft lengths
Short dogbones can become too responsive on the real high grip due to how the bind ramps up, basically creating too much pressure on the tires too quick. Using longer bones can create a more stable and predictable feel to help the buggy settle in the corners better.
For anybody who has a hard time understanding bone length... picture the axle as a lever on the hub and it starts to make more sense. A longer axle(shorter dogbone) will have more leverage and be more easily able to manipulate the suspension. This is part of why a short dogbone drives flatter during binding and long dogbone rolls more, the lever is either longer or shorter and controlling the suspension more.

I'm a relatively newby - just started back up in January after 30 years off!
I'm running an HB D2 Evo, and although I went through several front wishbones I changed them for Associated B6 flat ones, with a little modification. Now HB have released the re-designed V2 wishbones, I can say (fingers crossed) that these haven't yet broke yet, although my driving skills have also improved somewhat!
I find the D2 Evo to be a really good car, and it's running really well and getting some wins in on the carpets! I'm still running it with the metal geared diff, which I have no problems with!
