Default Caster Racing SCT10

Hey fellas! Does anybody run a caster racing sct10? I just bought one used off here and it is nice. I'm a fan. But I did manage to have a breakage, I cartwheeled it a few times and the one of the rear hinge pins popped out. Nothing actually broke, it just came apart but I lost a small bushing so I need to order them. They make aluminum bushings for a few dollars more so I'm going to upgrade to those but shipping is expensive and directly from Caster seems to be about the only place to get parts.

So, I was hoping that there was other people on here that have or had this truck so you can tell me what parts commonly break so I can stock up? I'm gonna get the bushings a set of arms and a few spur gears but does anybody know if there's is a particular weak point? (For instance the Slash it's the drive shafts)

Also does anybody know of other places that stock parts or hop ups? It's a nice truck and I'd hate for it to go unused because lack of parts support.

Yea, I checked that site out but unfortunately they are out of stock on pretty much everything. I found one other site that carries caster stuff but it was the same story, out of stock. I'll just sick it up and eat the shipping from the manufacturer, I just want to try to get some feedback on what parts to focus on.

There is a guy named Roman Evans on facebook. He is going to be the new US distributor. He may be able to order parts for you.

Okay fellas I have an update. I took the truck out to the track today it was a mixed bag, it takes the corners great and handles really well but jumping not so much, it is dives nose straight down unless you keep the throttle completely pinned but even then it still really wants to go nose first. It corners significantly better than my Slash 4x4 and I think it's more enjoyable to drive but when it comes to jumping the Slash is miles ahead. Also the durability... The Slash is a tank! I can beat the snot out of it and nothing breaks the caster... Not so much. My first time out with it last weekend I had the arm come off and today at the track the end of the cvd came out of the outdrive about every 3rd or 4th jump then after about 10 minutes of driving the pins fell out of the cvd... So to be clear I haven't actually had a real parts breakage bit the truck just doesn't seem to want to stay together... I think part of the problem is just that the parts have so much flex. I'm wondering if I'm just having a few fluke things or if this is common. Anybody know?

Not sure how to share his profile. I searched his name followed by Caster Racing..as far as the cvds popping out, one thing you can do to help is limit your droop by putting spacers inside the shocks so they cant fully extend, not sure if there is a chassis droop screw since i havent owned that car. For the nose dive, maybe heavier springs in the front?

Okay I found him. Thanks.

Also I got to the bottom of the cvd issue. One of the screws that hold the caster block on fell out so whenever it was landing from a jump is was flexing out and the shaft was falling out. Also the retention ring on the CV joint somehow moved out of place and the pin came out. So I have both of those issues fixed. I'll post another update next time I'm able to get out to the track.

as far as nose down issue when jumping, take a look and see what your ride height is and watch how the vehicle leaves the face of the jump, make sure its not slapping its rear end on the jump.

If what I am seeing of pics of the car are right, it has its weight oriented forward like the Tekno SCT410 in a way, which also was notorious for a nose down jumping issue that to get mostly corrected involved some spring, piston, and oil combo changes I believe.

Yea, I need to do some tuning for sure. I'm pretty new to running on a track. I just finally found one nearby after about a decade of searching and waiting for one to come. So I appreciate the tuning tips.

cool welcome to racing

You may find these useful:

Xray XB2 - Setup Helper

Xray XB4'16 - Setup Helper

I usually keep a print-out of each with me to reference how changes I do affect a given car. you should be able to get an idea from there on things you want to change.

Do you know what you current setup is on the car?

No, I'm a complete newb when it comes to setups. I know what most of the terms mean but I don't have the setup tools yet. I also picked up an sc10 4x4 in the same deal with the caster but it was a roller and I haven't had a chance to get it set up yet. I figure the sc10 will be better to get my feet wet with in the setup stuff because it's a more well known platform so there will be more information out there.

Okay, I got all of the issues fixed then I went over the truck and checked all of the screws and pins to make sure all was good. Then I took it out to do a little bashing. I did some running around on pavement and grass and there was about a 5 foot tall dirt mound I was using as a jump. I was getting probably about 8 foot of air off the dirt mound and nothing broke! Also I added some preload to the front springs to stiffen them up and it is jumping alot better but we'll see how it goes at the track tomorrow.

preload doesnt' stiffen the springs, it just adjusts your ride height. If your jumping improved then you most likely were chassis slapping during the jump before the change.

Like I said, newb... 😁 But thanks for pointing that out. I'm gonna take it to the track tomorrow and we'll see how it does in the jumps. It might be the shape of the jumps for all I know. We'll find out tomorrow.
