I think RC*PHREAK is talking about a 2 pole motor being able to power the truck to its full potential, not that you couldn't run a 2 pole motor at all. You'd just have to settle for a slower vehicle to not overheat the motor. Driving a vehicle on the edge of it's capabilities produces the most fun is for many people, so the power plant has to provide the kick to get there.
Personally, I don't think a 2 pole motor will be popular in this vehicle for modified racing and especially for bashing. It would work, but you'd be at the edge of it's capabilities. Opting for a 540 4 pole motor will give you a cool running system with all the power a 4wd vehicle can handle on a medium to large track. 10.5 might make a pretty sweet spec class, though. Think of it this way: For fast drivers, 2wd mod buggies run a 6.5 to 8.5 turn motor in mod. When you jump to 4wd, they drop 2-3 turns and run as low as a 5.5. 2wd trucks usually end up with similar motors as a 4wd buggy due to their extra weight and larger tire contact patch. Making that same truck 4wd would probably be capable of putting down the power from a 3.5 or 4.5 turn motor. Those motors are a handful to keep cool and are pretty brutal on the other electronics. |

Smaller tracks mod doesn't really mean quicker. |
They are testing the ET410 at SDRC today. Might catch a glimpse of it on LiverRC.

You can see a white truck on the track at SDRC. It looks fast and seems to handle real well. It could be it. |

Matt and Danny for sure. Mason is a Tekno driver so he's probably getting some wheel time too.

Setting up a motor is all about the gearing & the expectations. You can push a 1/8 ebug with a 380 motor & not over heat. It won’t accelerate quickly at all & won’t be fast at all, but it will work.

The same applies to a 1/10 truggy. If you want it to be the fastest thing on the track go ahead & put a 2600kv 1/8 motor in it & run it on an SMC 4300 4s with a tekin rx8. Will that be fast enough for you?

My personal expectation is a 10.5 with some timing & boost, & geared properly, will be fast enough to clear any big triples & not have any heat issues on 2s.
