Well if you installed a hi torque servo then you probably need to add a BEC.
Quite often the BEC that is built in to the ESC is not powerful enough to run a hi torque servo and still power the motor.
Most people that I know run the Castle Creations 10 amp version.

It would be helpful to know which servo you installed and which ESC you are using.

On my first Honcho I ran the TowerPro Hi-torque digital with no issues without a BEC. I too would start with the Rec. but it may not be a bad idea to install a BEC just for the added peace of mind. Are you running Lipo? Maybe check to make sure all plugs are installed correct and tight...make sure also you dont have a loose wire on the ESC at all or the Battery. When you installed the new servo, did you center the servo before installing the servo arm? Im not trying to make you sound dumb, just throwing some things out there....I've been guilty of missing simple things myself
