So how did the July 21st VF1 races go? There have been no results or pictures posted yet. Looking forward to reading about it, and seeing some pictures.

A question about chassis-
I got a body from Manny(thanks manny) and it seems like the F104W has the proper look I want to build. I have searched the for sale thread and do not see the W model available very often.
Can a 104 or 104 v2 or Pro be converted to a W? Or, what are my options for a chassis? I will not be racing, just running it occasionally on asphalt and concrete(no on road around here anyway). I am mostly interested in something used to keep cost down but am open to options/suggestions.

There was only three of us and unfortunately the track conditions was not conducive to the spec Tamiya rubber... to put it nicely ....
I think it's a combination of the break away arms which scare / piss people off and way too many classes going on...
I still find myself driving my VF1 on the street enjoying this beautiful body Manny has made...

The short answer is "yes"

You can take any of those chassis and mount the F103 front arms to the front and use F103 style tires on the back to make a "wide" car. I think you can download an F103 manual from the Tamiya site if you need instructions and part numbers for the front end parts.

Here are pictures of my VF1 car...a replica of Jim Clark's Gold Leaf Lotus 49 that he won the 1968 Tasman Series with. this was the only Gold Leaf liveried Lotus 49 that he raced before his death at Hockenheim on April 7.
The body was painted and decaled by Big Al, and I made the following modifications:
Re-worked the upper rear suspension arms and rear anti-rollbar
Added lower rear suspension arms and tailpipes and mounting brackets, plus side mirrors. The body is mounted to a stock F104, and I used the F103RM front suspension, and wrapped the arms with chrome monokote; plus I used the HPI VTA wheels and tires to finish the vintage late 60's F1 look.
Please enjoy the pictures...I hope to test drive the car very soon.
I am only allowed to post 5 pictures at a time, so this will require a few posts
as I have at least 15 pictures to post.

Here are pictures of my final updates to my Jim Clark Gold Leaf Team Lotus 49
The updates are as follows:
1) Added knock off wheel nuts for a more 60's look to the wheels
2) Added the red wires to the intake trumpets like the real cars had.
3) Reworked the rear anti-sway bar and added lower mounting points for realism.
4) Shortened the upper rear suspension arms... the previous ones were a bit too
long.
I think I'm finally satisfied with the appearance of the car. I hope you like it!
