New to SoCal-where to race?
Guys,
My family and I will be moving to the San Diego area in the next two weeks. I am in the military and will probably live fairly close to MCAS Miramar. Where are some good places to race in that area? I typically run 1/8E and 10th scale mod. I have never raced indoors on clay and would really love to give it a go. I obviously know about OC/RC and West Coast RC, but I think those are a bit far are they not?
Can anybody recommed any good tracks in the area, indoors or outdoors either one! Thanks.
Jim

unfortunately, 1/8 wonder is the only off road track in san diego but, there are some on road parking lot tracks. there is also arc in temecula.
the drive up to ocrc, west coast, revelation, and pegasus hobbies takes about 1hr 20min with no traffic from the mira mesa area. hot rod hobbies is about 2.5hrs.
there was a rumor of an indoor clay off road track opening in the sd area, but nothing's come of it yet.

I have to drive roughly an hour or so in traffic after work to get from Sherman Oaks to La Mirada to race at West Coast R/C and I feel it's worth the trip for either off-road OR on-road racing...both tracks are sweet. I webmaster for Hot Rod Hobbies and I enjoy racing there a lot - but as Rod says...that's a long drive from SD, so save that for a big weekend race. Nobody does big off-road races like Jimmy Babcock.

there is also ARC Raceway in Temecula at Vail Lake. Check them out at ARCRaceway.com. Its a bitchen outdoor track and is quite large. Dan the owner takes great care of the track and its nearly always well groomed. I live in SD too very close to MCAS Miramar and I get to ARC in about 45 Minutes. Its definitely a shorter drive than OCRC and WCRC for us San Diego folks.
Shoot me a PM if you decide to cruise up one day... its a really fun track. The only downside is they arent open all day saturday or sunday like the rest of the So Cal tracks.... so you have to go durring their hours.
