Hex drivers

I need a new set of hex drivers. Imperial and metric. What brands would you rate highly? I would like to purchase a good quality set that I can rely upon.

Hudy & Arrowmax are the best, but not cheap.

EDS are the best bang for buck.

OldSkool 02-03-2016 02:55 PM

I noticed Walter RC have metric driver sets on sale at the moment.
Worth a look.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't mind spending extra, just want quality. They get used heaps and I am over them breaking...a bit rough on the gear perhaps.
Are the Hudy any good? They look the same as the cheaper units.

MIP and very good tools, never seen one strip or snap.

nexxus 02-03-2016 05:24 PM

Arrowmax are prob the best now, the last few sets of Hudy I have had have used cheap chinese tips (same as EDS) and they strip. If you can buy an older set of Hudy from someone getting out they are a good option too.

Xceed aren't bad either, or Losi/Associated tools

Have to agree with nexxus and Michael T, arrowmax are good, I use them in the feild, I have a full set of eds and wasn't real impressed when my 2.5mm wore out fairly quickly, currently in the process of replacing my home set to arrowmax.

OldSkool 02-03-2016 05:48 PM

I've had the purple arrowmax sets, but found them to be soft. The newer honeycomb ones are supposed to be better.
I have a set of losi tools that are almost 20 years old, and they're still in very good condition for the amount of use they have had.
If you can find machined tool steel tips, it would be your best option.
Losi, MIP, etc are like these.

Thanks, that's the sort of info I am seeking. Arrowmax getting good feedback, Hudy not as good as they suggest...they look exactly like all the other generic cheap ones. I will have a look tonight when I am home.

I do like the hudy profit tools with the Plastic handles as they are very comfortable to use. the majority of my tools are these. But in 1.5 and 2mm Mip hands down the best and I imagine their 2.5 is just as robust. In 5 years I went thru a set of eds and 2 sets of hudy drivers in 1.5 and 2mm. I bought my mip 3 years ago now and they are still like new. They look like Tonka toys but man they cop abuse. I've seen 10 and 15 year old MIP tools that still have great tips.

MIP probably utilise the best tooling steel for hobby grade tools

+1 for Arrowmax though, have a full purple set and have yet to round a tip or break out the spare replacement tool bits. Extremely good when compared to the hideous pricing on Hudy tool sets

Where can you get MIP tools in Aus?

Sully 02-04-2016 12:49 AM

http://www.mildtowildrc.com.au - Looks like they have some stuff in stock, the MIP tips are good but i hate the handles, so hard to grip if your hands get the slightest bit sweaty or oily.

iJRacing 02-04-2016 01:31 AM

A mate snapped two of his honeycomb Arrowmax drivers within a short period?

iJRacing 02-04-2016 01:32 AM

The MIP units handles look like they are heavy and leftover from the 1980's.
