Default Difference in pinions

Hi everyone,

I have come across a mixed bag of older and not
so old pinions some of which may be from kyosho cars, some
others from possibly tamiya cars. Is there a difference
between them? I am aware that there is difference pitch
sizes ie 32dp 48dp, and 64dp and can easily identify these.
But was also aware there was other sizes including 0.4
module adding to this the possibility of another size for
tamiya f1's?

I've already done some searching with google, and had not
too much fun trying to find the info i require. Basically i
want to know how to tell the difference between the brands,
and different modules/pitches so that i can find matching
spurs/cars to run them in. Also if the spurs have different
markings on them this would be handy also.
Thanks for any help you guys might be able to lend to this

matter

as far as i am aware, there is a difference. as well as the different types of pitches, 32,48, etc. there is also 48 metric (as used in some tamiya cars) as well as regular (imperial) 48 pitch, as used with most other 1/10th scale cars. i hope this helps.

Default Pinions

5 days and 72 viewers later and only BBJ has any knowledge of these pinions? Does anybody know any more info on these? I've search google from a-z and came up with near zero. So as I understand it there is 32,48 and 64dp imperial. And a possibility of there being a 48dp metric for tamiya etc. I think there might also be a 64dp for tamiya etc and I think there was a 0.4 module for kyosho but not 100% sure on this. But my question is how can I identify the difference? Do these pinions/spurs have markings on them to notify the user wether they are imperial/metric/0.4module.

Can someone please shed some light on this pinion/spur delima for me please

64 pitch and Tamiya 0.4 module is identical...you can mix and match Tamiya pinions/spurs with other brand 64 pitch.

Does that help?

unfortunatly, there is no real way of telling the difference just by looking at them. perhaps with a pair of vernier calipers, then you would have to know what to look for. im pretty sure that for the imperial stuff, the pitch is acually the number of teeth per inch. i remember long ago when the tamiya mini was first released, the biggest pinion you could get for it was a tamiya 20 tooth. it had preset motor mounts. guys at racing used to squeeze imperial 21's into them (they would physically fit!) but due to the difference in pitch, the spur gears wouldnt last long.

I believe 0.8 module is equal to 32p. 0.8 modules are used in some 1/8 buggies.
