i am surprised they even allowed you to ship a sealed Lead acid battery to AU.
as stated, Lead, and acid. definately dangerous goods. if it does pass customs, you are lucky. it still maybe passed , as it is in the country now, but after that , they may lable it dangerous goods, and it may take some time to get to you. but not 100% certain as to how this will pan out, these smaller 12V sealed batteries can be sourced easily in AU, and quite cheaply. not sure why you decided to get one from OS ?

starter box will be a gel cell. i looked on A Mains, and its just the same price as one can get locally. maybe due to the box, it may clear customs. ut they say nothing about ground shipping, so maybe UPS will allow it, but i doubt AU Post will.

I dont think customs will care as it is not a Prohibited Import. I'd be more worried about OTS (Office of Transport Security) not allowing it to ship once in the country, if it even got out of the US. If is not clear on the labelling that it is in there, you'll probably get it anyway

I don't know why anyone bothers with 12v batteries or gel cells for their starter box's anymore
I use a 14.8V 3000mAh Lipo
It is light and easy to fit.
And i can get it from hobby king here is Aus for (I Think it was) $26 AUD posted
So go the lipo

No-one can take the rest of the goods from you, they are yours, and not illegal or prohibited, honestly, I think you'll get your whole package
