Default Question relating responsibility

On the weekend I used a charger of the guy with a HRT shirt. The problem is, that someone pulled the power chord out, and as a result his charger is stuffed. At this stage I don't know if it can be repaired or a new one is required.

The question is, How responsible am I ?

Should I :
1. offer to pay half of the repairs / a new charger.
2. accept full responsibility and pay for the repairs / a new charger.
3. say bad luck and never let anyone use my stuff.

Ask yourself this question. If you hadnt used his charger & it was in his pit box, would it now be stuffed? It may not be your fault but he was good enough to lend it to you & you must then treat it as your own, with all associated responsibility.

Sounds odd that a charger would break for that reason. Most charger's don't have an on and off switch, So I would assume that you are just dropping the 240. Same as turning off the power point.

May have been broken before you used it.

Ask yourself this...

What if it were your charger?

What would you expect the person to do in this situation?

This is exactly why dont like borrowing stuff off people..

ask the guy you borrowed the charger from what he would like you to do and if it's reasonable.Do it.

Its really a no brainer.

Put yourself in his shoes, and offer to him exactly what you would have asked for yourself, if that happened to you.

It was in your care when it broke, and it would only be fair for you to replace it. The guy you borrowed it from is now minus a charger. Take it on the chin and keep up the friendship with the guy you borrowed it from, you may be in his shoes one day!

check the fuse. did it fall to the ground or something?

imagine it was a camcorder, you borrowed it, and someone droped water on it and it stoped working. you would pay to at least fix it right? same with charger.

you have the right to decide what happens next, either you send it for repairs and pay everything, or buy a new one totally. you are obliged to do either of these two though, and nothing less.

Thanks for your opinions.
Paying for a replacement will delay buying a charger for myself, but that’s just how it is going to be. This lesson I will hopefully learn, is never to borrow anything ever again

If you replace it, you are entitled to the old one & you may be able to fix it for yourself. Or if it was mine & you repaired it, that would be enough to solve the problem.

Default If it was me

The sad thing is that things break. You where very unlucky that you where the person using it at the time. If the charger was mine i would not have let it leave my site. I would let you use it but as long as it stayed with me. Now if it broke and it was new it would be a warranty job. If it was just out of warranty i would be pissed at the manufacturer as it would have not been you doing that made this thig break as long as you had been using it they way it was intended. If it was old then who knows it was going to break anytime or not for another 10yrs. My point is and there is a point i would not hold you responsible as it was not intentional. If you ask me the person who pulled the power is liable as well if you are and so is the event organiser but that would be silly and taking it too far.

}What model charger is it?

}Did the positive and negative come in contact while it was charging a battery?

}Was the power cord connected to a 240volt supply?

Cheers

I commend you for addressing the issue rather than just hiding from the problem.

It shows you are concerned about what happened and want to resolve it.

I am sure you will eventually do what you feel is right after reading the posts in this forum.
