The rs is not a new speedi it has been out for about
2 years yes it software is upgradeable but it is older than the spx and wasn't RL running a tekin last year |

The only difference between the top STOCK and top MOD runners in the brushed era was the motor and the difference is EXACTLY the same now... its always been the guys that could spend the big dollars on the Novaks, LRPs, Tekins etc that ran up the front... and it happen at club level as well, maybe just a bit less obviously.... batteries, ESC's, chassis and radios were all free, only the motor was spec'd as a 27T with fixed timing at 24degrees... and even THAT sometimes caused controversy when companies came out with new motors that seemed to be so much faster than those that had come before... It strikes me that 17.5BL isn't much different... The real issue is that the technology has moved ahead in leaps and because everyone was in such a hurry to adopt BL its come back to bite them on the ass!... anyone with any sort of technical background or interest looked at the early BL systems and KNEW than once the competition between the brands got into full swing, the possibilities for tuning them would be almost boundless and now the RC world doesn't want to lay in the bed it made for itself!... the Tekin RS has shown just how far the technology can go... Stop trying to attach some mythical nirvana class to the name STOCK... winning 27t was 19.8 sec TQ 19t 18.4 TQ Mod 16.2 TQ a little closer these days Happy racing everyone. |

I actually find the argument funny. No one was complaining when the SPX blew everyone away so everyone went and bought one to outdo others. Now another company comes up with a fast ESC and people complain. The problem is more about the fact that certain ESC companies do not provide free upgrades.
I'm glad 10.5 isn't so reliant on speedos |

Jeez you come out with some misguided comments sometimes Greg. The SPX was worth a tenth or two at most tracks, the latest tekin software probably half a second faster in 17.5. Watching Andrew and Alex blow past people at 10.5 speeds at the end of the straight at IMCC and SMA with the latest tekin software I can see why people get annoyed. It's not an anti-tekin conspiracy, people just think it sux that you have to have one to be competitive in 17.5.
I'm glad 10.5 isn't so reliant on speedos A tenth or two ? hardly. At the time you all jumped ship to gain the advantage which was worth more than 0.1 seconds and even more on larger tracks. Now you have been caught out by another faster system. Soon LRP will release their new system and it continues.Drivers were happy when their SPX was faster. Now not happy because a different brand is faster. Maybe if companies like LRP would release updated software for free then there would be no issue. Anti-Tekin ? Nah. I am not thinking that. I am anti the companies that just bleed us . Tekin has not done that to date. Look at the example of Team Wave. Promised upgradability but when they had an upgrade they issued a new ESC and said sorry cant upgrade. All I said was that Tekin at least was upgradeable and you could still be using an ESC that you bought 2 years ago Technology will not go away. Is more about how it is presented to us. LRP prefer to sell us a new ESC. Tekin offer free upgrades. That is why Tekins are selling very quickly in the USA BTW ... just had a look at the results from Summer Nats ... the Tekin was about 0.1 -0.2 secs a lap faster on fastest individual lap than guys not driving Tekins in the majority of cases |
i agree . although i dont run 17.5 having seeing the rs speedys run the advantage is a joke , if i didnt have the dollars to keep up , it would be enough for me to leave the class, it wouldnt be much fun getting smoked
it just dont seem to be stock to me, |

Not a bad idea, one of the reasons behind me making the switch from TC to Mini this year.

at our track 10.5 is a few tenths faster than old 5 cell mod. I'm talking me (certainly no state state or national champion) beating Simon Nicholson's 5 cell mod lap records from 2 years ago. it's just retarded. 17.5 with tekin/spx is faster than old 8.5t superstock (with TC spec era speedy). we don't race mod anymore because most people think the track is too small for it now, like navigating a mcdonalds carpark in a top fuel dragster.
mostly the difference between 10.5t and mod is on the straights, the challenge of mod is to drive 90% of any track at part throttle at the same (or maybe a tiny bit faster) speed as todays superstock with the throttle mashed, gaining a few tenths on the straights when the 1hp rocket lets loose... why? |
Maybe the motor classes need to be changed then.
Stock ...21.5 Superstock ......13.5 |
Speed control choices
Hi all..
I have got the RS-Pro $199 , SPX Stock spec.$210. LRP SXX TC spec $189 aus (not used yet) Thats what I paid for them.. Ran both in 10.5 and 17.5.... In my opinion...The LRP wins hands down as it has Brakes/push a button and the settings change...No exsposed pos and neg bars..I shorted the first one i had..it lasted 25 mins.. (Tekin has awsome backup service, told my story and they replaced it at cost..I would of had the first RS in Aus at the time) Has no reverse polarity protection...Im not sure if the LRP does. Novak does. Dont really want to find out either :)...I tried everything to get brakes with the Rs and I gave up....some say they have plenty..but the lrp still out brakes ANY RS speedy...The LRP has loads of brakes.. The RS has ok slow speed brakes..but the faster you go,,the less you have...The Fast stock guy admited he had no brakes...and I dont reall want to carry around a computer...more stuff to pack..and who wants to be a rocket scientest to play with our cars..isnt there enough going on with that??? My son runs 17.5..SPX Stock ..profile 7..An Orion series 2..(got rid of the Redline,,crappy motors), he wasnt slow either..Wait till a Duo 2 goes in.. But it is a bit silly..stock aint stock..but dont we have novice for that reason? One thing that Ide like to know...The tracks in the USA all seem to be short, indoor carpet tracks...Ask a question,,(tyring to get brakes from the RS) and explain the track size,,and they, well, how should i say this...Go and buy a another gallon coke to calm down... And they always say the have plenty of brakes I use an RS in my 1/12.who needs brakes in a 1/12 any way. Tried the vegas software @67mmm roll out 1cell lipo..its quick....motors cool. heres a link to a in car 1/12 cam..u can here the speedy wind up..If you look at the other link..listen how the 10.5 LRP goes into "turbo"..i think ill take a gear off ang get it earlier..so much easyier than carrying around a computer.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iux8m9hlqU....1/12 link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iux8m9hlqU ..Going to put in the new LRP SXX TC spec and see... The guy that dominates 17.5 here, runs and "old" SPX with an old duo...It died on the weekend..finally:lol::lol: the motor that is..Thats to you Ben.... But guys...seriously...With the dollar high...a new speedy costs around $200-250 Aus....I remmember when a speedy was $400 plus.....And racing, exspecially if you want to be at the pointy end..is not cheap anyway... How much do we spend.."chasing" motors/ batteries/tyres? The way I see people throw tyres on their cars..well a new upgraded esc aint that bad,, My 2 cents worth anyway.. Mike |
you're probably right, i think of it as stock being slightly above the fastest 540 class to allow skilled newbs to migrate to brushless and be competitive without giving up; mod at the top, and superstock if it has to exist right in the middle. Right now we have 540, a big gap, stock, superstock and mod getting closer every brushless technology cycle.
if technology could allow for lipo packs to dump (or cutoff) safely it might open up some new options for longer races as well. |
Re Reply
Hi again..
When I said that the Redline motors were crappy...Didnt mean to sound harsh:blush: ..Good reliable motor, but not as good as the others as far as performance.. Mike |

We have not been involved in rc racing that long but your classification of a particular class (stock) is wrong. I have been involved with other forms of motor sports, their classification (Novice, Expert & Mod) were exactly as stated with novice & expert allowed very little modifications if any. As you say modified was open to the cheque book.....:D

Daz ...old LRP SPX? This is one of the latest generation high tech ESC's so of course it would be competitive.
Again just information to consider Jared has only been racing 2 years. First year in 540 with an old brushed novak speedie & 2009 in stock with the SPX. The time we bought it, you are right it was the speedie to have but we did not have at the time any brushless one's. My point is not to winge about speedie's, Jared uses Tekin products (not speedies) & loves Tekin, but to highlite that I believe the stock class rules are wrong & this is not helping the number of people that would love to race other than at club level. Cheers Daz |
