Default Probation time

hay guys
i have been to about 8 or 9 club racers and am starting to keep up with the other guys and becoming constant. but i am still ahving problems with the throtle control and i still miss judge corners every so often. wanting to no how long it took for other to get to the point of where they were able to keep up with the other without to much trouble and is there anything i can do to help me learn to drive more consistantly

thanks
dane

It could be a slow throttle servo ... When I started out I didnt think we needed a fast throttle, after SPRacer took it out and pointed out the delay in
throttle control speed I upped the specs on the servo and he was right.

Default throtle prob

i have a throtle servo that has a speed of 0.19secs but that i think is the problem i am ok when i am either ou front by a fair way or in the middle by myself but when i start getting pressured by an other car a start to try and go to fast around corners and end up going to wide because i have braked to late or put the throlte on to hard to soon is there a way to help me learn not to do this quickly or is it just practice makes perfect

thanks

honestly... there is no 'time frame' to getting to be fast.
when it clicks.. it clicks.

i was the same. then after a while i just knew i had drive steady to become consistant. i don't think you need the best of the best equipment you just need to drive within your abilities, then you will get faster.

i had a revo that i used to run against truggies. i won a few races because i didn't try to overdrive the car i just ran the same lap after lap.

i now come 2nd last not last...lol

The way i found to get better is like most things just practice practice practice.

I use to arrange a day off get the keys to the track and go and practice and take a mate or my brother along to watch and be a marshal as well.

I also took along a Stopwatch and got my mate to time my laps while i had 5 mins set on my watch. would see what times and the amount of laps i got done.

Its all you can do like the V8s have a test day just do the same thing if possible at your usual track and work on Brake Markers Turn in points etc. You concentrate more when you are the only car out there too and not under pressure.

my 2 cents

There is probley only 2 more thing you can do, Just slow the car down, and work on your lines and braking markers, and also too enter in as may events as you can, the more events you race, the more you will learn as different things happen an you learn by your mistakes, for some people it just comes naturaly but for others they just need to practice.

For me, the past year ive slowed things down a touch an just worked on my lines and the way i set the car up, and iam only just now starting to put more power down to the ground, an since ive slowed things down iam doing pretty well, and now iam starting to make A finals and actually finish races, like atm iam 8th in NSW for 1/8th on-road an at the states i learnt so much, but yer the more you race and practice the better you will become

Default Make car easier to handle.

I agree with previous post, use the transmitter if you need to, and slow the car down until you find it turning in smoothly and maintaing corner speeds.
It's very difficult to agressively attack a corner and maintain speed. If you consider that our track lengths are approx 200-300 metres, running wide develops a large percentage of extra track to cover.

DO NOT USE THE TOP NEEDLE to SETUP your car.. Don't run rich to slow engine, use less throttleThey'll all tell you " it's all in the clutch.. it's all in the clutch!" They are correct.. Dont give yourself an aggresive clutch, it will unsettle the car if the chassis and gearing isnt setup for it.

It all points to one critical issue and it's not speed its all about how comfortable you feel with the car. As newbies ourselves, Ive learnt to give the boys an easy car to drive. I run softer suspension and harder tyres to "keep it real".

As they are slower than the others, they are yeilding and have to drive off line and it's dusty/dirty etc. With an agressive car once you run wide to let people through your tyres will be dirty and it's hard work to get back into a ryhtym if car is on edge.

As an example, I run my sons EP with a 6.5 turn in MOD, I use a 10.5 turn gear setup and lower the throttle on his transmitter. This gives him less agressive bottom pickup and good top speed.

Accept everything everyone will teach you and come to a conclusion that suits your driving and your performance expectation. In our sport we race the clock, leave yourself room to develop gradually. Along the way you will learn lots of tips and tricks that arent necessarily relevant to a noob but handy as you improve times. There really is a lot to absorb and apply and I dont think there is a way to explain it all as Im still learning after two years.

Best thing is to ask specific questions. I want to go faster isnt a good question as you'll learn that there isnt one finite answer to it. It's a GIANT picture, inclusive of learning rules, environments, tracks, tyre choice etc etc etc...

Having said all this, the best answer to your question is...

ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE, BE READY AT THE START, and BE THERE AT THE FINISH and BRING YOUR CAR HOME IN ONE PIECE

Cheers.

You could ask a more experienced driver to have a drive of your car just to make sure that you have a set up that can be driven consistently, (not fast). Just maybe the set up may not lend it self to be pushed hard in race trim, You may not know that you have a problem until someone points it out.
If it can be driven in that way then the speed will come as you put laps on the car. Consistency first and look at your standard dev after your heat and dont worry about anything else until you get it down to a figure that the faster guys have.

i have Ultrahobbies Owner BRAD helping me at the races. he helps me with setup and that. beacuse he runns a D8 as well it does make this easier as i can look at his car for help.

i can keep up with the others but i can't do this under pressure. if i am by myself in a race i am consistant and keep at a good pace. but as soon as i catch up to someone or i get caught up to i loose concerntration and make a mistake.
is this something that i need to work out for myself or wat and how did people get past this.

thanks
