M03/M05's - The Aussie Mini Racing thread

Hello all,
I'm looking at joining the mini class next season and was just wondering if I can get your opinion on a few things.
Am I able to run a m06 competitively against m05's?
I already have a m05 chassis with a few alloy bits ie heatsink and rear uprights, and would like to know if it's worth keeping or should I either upgrade parts to make it a v2 or just buy a new chassis? And what parts are needed to convert? I don't have any lipo packs that wil fit into the chassis and will have to purchase some when the time comes and have other rcs I'd like to use the batteries in but.
Am I still able to get the tamiya Mini Cooper shell or are the discontinued and if so does an aftermarket company make one similar?
And finally is there any parts I should be looking at replacing with aftermarket straight up or should I just wait and see what breaks first?
Cheers Bunyip!

Hey Bunyip. I won't have answers for you, but a couple of suggestions. Go speak to the guys at your local track. Do they run mini there? Will they allow a RWD to race against FWD? If the answer is no to either, stop there, unless you like to travel a lot. The chances are you won't want to run a M06. If you're faster the other guys will call you a cheat. If you're slower you'll wish you just got the M05 to start with
Not 100% who would have the Rover mini in stock, but you should be able to get it somewhere. Again though, speak to the local guys. A SWB chassis may be terrible at your local track, so a MWB or LWB would be preferred...
Older M05 would be fine. Steering assembly and shocks are the two main upgrades you should invest in. Learn how to drive it before you spend much more than that.
Good luck and hope you get involved!

Mini in QLD
Whenever my young bloke and I get our minis (2 x M05's) out for a run people stop to watch. However the old fiat 500 shells are due to be discarded. Wondering if you Victorian guys have a local shop that stocks any MChassis shells. After 2 of the Fiat 500's if I can get them. 2nd choice would be either of the Suzuki Swifts Tamiya put out. Otherwise any shells to suit the mid or long length chassis build. Short wheelbase is a little too twitchy out our track
