Default a question about lipo balancers

im getting a couple of intellect IP3800 lipo packs and i have 2 checkpoint tc1030 chargers (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPYT8&P=M).

will this balancer work with the intellect batteries? - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXTSA5&P=ML

it say only for the checkpoint batteries but the intellect uses the same connectors.

or am i better off getting a new charger with the balancer built in?

It will work with any charger... and any batteries with the 4mm and 2mm sockets.

I use a trackpower balancer with both my chargers and all my various battery packs.

Dave: I have been using that balancer with intellects all year. No issues, very much plug and play. Good bit of kit.

BK,

With the trakpower balancer I notice when discharging down to 6V the discharge finishes but the pack is still balancing. Is it ok to start charging while its still balancing???

Sorry im a mong with batteries at the best of times!!!

Regards

Kyle

Kyle, no need to discharge at all, just recharge from where you left it.
The balancer will take care of any differences.

Most of the OS manufacturers are saying that as we only have 2 cell packs, and under a relatively low discharge rate (compared to air stuff) then it is highly unlikely our packs will even need balancing anyhow.

I agree. The only discharging i do with Lipo is in my car while racing.

gotta love that. i wish 12th scale used lipos as well i'd like to get one, but can't be bothered fumbling around with sub c cells, equalisers, and constant weekly charge routines to avoid dead cells. any chance of 12th scale going lipo soon? you'd probably have to add weight i'm guessing.

I've been watching what 12ths are doing pretty intently, so far as I can tell any change is a way off but they are talking about either going single cell lipo or 2 cell with smaller (380 size I think) motors. Both options have pros and cons, but yeah the days of nimh are dead for me (just like the mod packs in my spare room) so there wont be a 12th until there is an alternative

Not only is there an alternative, there is a better class, GT10, std radio gear, std packs, controlled motors, bigger wider more stable cars, with some awesome looking bodies.

There are half a dozen chassis choices, and hundred of bodies you could run.
Tires will last forever with a spec motor, and simple chassis identical to most 12th scales.

See the GT10 thread for more details.

I already know of unbalanced cells in high quality lipo packs (off road).
You have to balance!!! Lipo cells only need a few millivolts difference and they're out of balance. (check out orion site info on lipos)
